Dropping out of my 4 year college to pursue mortuary science

Hey everyone,

I've wanted to be a funeral director since I was 14 (I'm 22 now), but I ended up going to a 4 year college where I've spent 5 years absolutely miserable, knowing I wasn't doing what I wanted to (which has been reflected in my grades but overall my GPA is ok).

This fall was supposed to be my 6th year trying to finish this damn degree, but I have no interest in using it and have planned on immediately studying mortuary science after graduating for the past year. So instead of sinking more money into something I know I'm not going to use, I decided to not register for classes. It doesn't make any sense for me to take out huge loans I can't pay back when I'm just going to pursue something else right after. Still, I feel like kind of a loser for quitting even though it's to do what I truly want. I'm going to spend the next few months saving money so I can put myself through a mortuary science program at a well regarded community college.

... still, kind of feel like a loser for dropping out when I'm a year away from finishing but I feel like it's the right decision for me right now, and I can always go back and finish my degree. I guess I always expected I'd end up taking an unconventional path to an unconventional career, but I'm afraid people will look down on me for quitting. I'm not sure why I'm writing this, I guess for reassurance that I'm not a dumb ass for making a good financial decision for myself and finally pursuing what I've always wanted. I've already met with multiple funeral directors to ask questions about the profession, and most have commented on how I have realistic expectations of the field and seem right for it, so I'm excited to finally start this journey.
