I may receive bootleg items from China.. what do? :(
I won and paid for up to 10 animated figures on ebay without realizing they may arrive as bootlegs.
The sellers are pretty rampant, their auctions usually always end under 20$ w/free shipping. All of them are from China and most have different usernames with 0 feedback, however the items receive tons of bids. The pictures in the descriptions show authentic figs, but for the price they are being won for, it just seems too good to be true. It's damn near impossible not to bid, regardless of the outcome, especially for the price.
Word of mouth told me that it's illegal to purchase and own a bootleg, because it goes against copyright. I don't normally do business with overseas sellers, so this fact came at me from left field. Any concern I once had over losing my money is gone, because I am way more concerned over the packages getting seized by customs, where I may become a target of their affection. I don't want their attention, I'm innocent. If they should be going after anyone, it should be the vendor. Why is ebay unable to stop these people anyway?
I'm really concerned and need some advice on how to handle myself. Has anyone had their items seized by customs? Does shit go down? I've never had this happen before. The whole situation feels very insidious, and it's making me sick to my stomach.
