Nacho cheese is spicy?
So I work at a little pretzel shop at our mall. (I hope this type of food service counts for this sub. If not please direct me to a more fitting one!) We serve hand-rolled pretzels made from fresh dough every day. My job is cashier and I also prep the order for the customer right there.
It baffles me that I have to specify that our nacho cheese sauce (one of several dipping choices) is mildly spicy and has jalapenos in it. We also have cheddar cheese (my personal pick) which obviously has no spice whatsoever.
We get several parents come back to us, irate that their child is crying because it's spicy. I have recently snubbed this issue by doing the following:
Me: "And would you like anything to dip your pretzel in?"
Customer: "Yeah, cheese."
Me: "Ok, would you like regular cheddar or spicy nacho?"
This method eliminates the question almost entirely. Some people still ask if there's a difference...ugh.
And in the case of a parent ordering for their child and they mention nacho cheese, I inform them that it's jalapeno based and they usually switch to cheddar instead. We have both cheeses listed on our warmer where they are stored, so this is not a menu issue.
Can someone explain to me...what universe exists where the term "nacho" is not associated with "spicy"??? I don't understand peoples' logic. It even happened often at the mexican restaurant I worked at previously!
Edit: Huh, I guess I didn't know how many people didn't assume it would be spicy. Well, lesson learned! Thanks, guys.
