Has anyone done comparative benchmarking or have performance stats for HP/3PAR V400,S400, and 7400?
I'm looking for performance stats (throughput for various volume sizes and RAID levels, latency, IOPS, etc) for the HP/3PAR S400 (All 15K FC) and V400 (All 10K SAS) storage arrays.
I manage storage for a company with a few of each of these arrays, and we're deploying one of our spares to a new colo. We have these arrays to choose from:
- An S400 maxed out with 240x 300GB 15K FC4 HDDs (56TB provisionable) and 12 host-facing FC4 ports.
- A V400 with slightly slower drives, 192x 600GB 10K SAS HDDs (90TB provisionable) and 8 host-facing FC8 ports.
I know the S400 is a little older, but I have a feeling its latency would be lower for random database loads, since it has more, faster spindles. The primary subscribers to these SANs will be MariaDB, MSSQL, and ElasticSearch, all which would benefit most from low-latency more than overall throughput. We're trying to decide which SAN to deploy in the new colo, weighing the pros and cons of each, and unfortunately, I don't have the power budget nor circuits to power these spares up in my dev environment to do the testing myself.
