My friend did Morai, I didn't. How do I catch up?

I have about 90 hours in the game. I've tried trading, exploration, missions, bounty hunting and a few community goals to make credits. I am only worth ~60,000,000 credits (which I thought was normal, maybe I'm just bad).

After NMS turned out to be shit my friend got into Elite. He did Morai today and got the 138 million reward. He now has 150 million credits. So he has a Python already.

Is there any way I can catch up quickly? Is it even worth trading/trying to make money if I could just wait for another CG like this?
