ELI5: How is it possible that we still don't know the root cause of migraines?

Headaches are incredibly common and seem relatively simple. We know what causes diseases like cancer, we've figured out all sorts of immunological diseases, so how is it possible at all that something as quotidian as migraines are still unsolved and go without a reliable cure?
