Last 3 Cycles... FF says no ovulation detected :/

My chart seems kinda erratic and I've been temping orally, so maybe I'll try vaginally this cycle. Also, I have not been keeping track of the cervical mucous-- how important is this for determining ovulation? Can FF determine ovulation without it? I mean, a few times I've thought to myself "hey this must be that EWCM stuff they were talking about." Can I just note those days or do I really need to check it every day?
