Which US city to move to?
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.
Hi just thought I'd ask in here as I'm looking to move somewhere that has a fairly active OTO lodge/oasis. I've got dual nationality and have decided to up sticks here in Scotland and move to the US.
In my mid 20s so ideally somewhere I can meet new people easily.
My only criteria so far are as follows:
-Active OTO lodge/oasis with weekly events
-Friendly locals
-Relatively cheap for rent ($800 per month for 1 bed/studio)
-Near to hiking trails/nature, this is important
-Legal recreational marijuana (or close)
-Decent enough weather in the summer, not too hot
-Jobs available, Willing to do anything to get the ball rolling
So far I'm considering the SF bay area, OTO obviously has a big presence in California and I'm impressed by what I've seen online and from authors in the area. The only thing that puts me off is the high rent, looking on craigslist I think it would be tricky to find somewhere in the region of $800 per month without having to share an apartment. I've spent lots of time in the area and my dad still lives there.
Other places I am considering are Portland, Oregon and possibly Denver, Colorado but I am open to suggestions. Hawaii would be cool but no OTO there as far as I am aware and it looks quite expensive. Don't mind commuting by public transport if it's possible within an hour. Will be taking my bicycle with me so no need for a car at the moment.
I've cancelled my tenancy here and have given all my stuff to charity/friends so I'm sat in an empty house for a few weeks while I decide where to book a ticket to :)
Love is the law, love under will.
