Should I count out the possibility of a ten day Vipassana retreat? (Re:mental health)

I've been meditating with reasonable regularity for just over a year now, and am currently completing a 40 minute breath meditation daily. My main reason for meditating is to try to combat/tame anxiety that arises from Rumination / Pure-O OCD. I had hoped to build myself up to attending a retreat over the next couple of years, but, having spent a good bit of the day now checking out Willoughby Britton's research in to adverse effects of the contemplative path, feel quite put off. Specifically - having had my own experiences of intense surreality arising out of episodes of severe OCD (say, a single intrusive thought which repeats every 1-2 minutes for days, even weeks, on end) think I might be playing with fire, and might be better off just continuing with my daily practice.

If there are any practitioners who have attended a ten day retreat despite suffering from high levels of anxiety/depression/OCD I'd love to hear what their experience was like. Thanks!
