Moving out and feeling guilty
I am 26 years old and still live at home. I'm financially able to be on my own and have been for some time, my parent is actually dependent on me financially. I really want to move out because staying home is miserable and I feel like I am missing out on life. The thing is, my mother is a single parent after my father died and she is not in the best health and also suffers from severe depression. Me leaving would only make things worse and I know that she won't be able to do household chores by herself without help. When I've mentioned moving before and how I would still be close and visit everyday she just says, "if you move out you have no reason to come back home so don't worry about me." She's very bitter and hateful. Even my younger siblings have moved out and started families and live on their own but I just can't seem to get past my own guilt about leaving her knowing her financial and mental health status.
I don't really know what I'm looking for, advice or just kind words of someone who may know how I feel, maybe. You only live once and I just feel like I'm giving away my chance at happiness to keep her happy, and I'm miserable and feel like I have nothing to show for myself at 26!
