Yet another "type me!" post

Type Me

I've seen a couple of these crop up lately, so I've been very curious to see how you all type me--I have typed myself before, but I have a hard time trusting the accuracy of all the tests and would like to see what other people say. My friend and I often talk about the differences between the way people view themselves, and the way they are perceived by others, and I'm curious to see how well (if at all) the way I view myself lines up with the way other people interpret my functions. Anyway, here we go!

1) Is there anything that may affect the way you answer the questions? For example, a stressful time, mental illness, medications, special life circumstances? Other useful information includes sex, age, and current state of mind.

I am a 19 year old female (20 in less than a week! Happy Birthday to me!) in the process of moving house, so I might be a little stressed out because of that, but nothing too major right now. I'm pretty sure I go through minor bouts of depression when I don't have a busy life (i.e. not working a full time job, or on breaks from college, AKA right now.) I'm currently in an antsy state of mind, which might be why I'm distracting myself with this.

2) Click on this link: Look at the random photo for about 30 seconds. Copy and paste it here, and write about your impression of it.

Oh, God, I think I got really lucky with the "explore" function on flickr. The colors in the photo pulls strong emotions up through my chest--not just because of the photo itself, but because of what it reminds me of. I live in the very beautiful pacific northwest, right on the bay, and while during the rainy season you don't get many sunsets like this, the summer sunsets are to die for. Oranges, purples, the most vibrant pinks I've ever seen in my life, and I have been lucky enough to see every sunset of the summer from my bedroom window. Sometimes I'll see that the sun is setting from the first story, run upstairs to my third floor room, look out, and immediately laugh out loud because I just can't believe the gorgeousness. I love these sunset memories, and I love this picture for bringing those up. I could do with or without the boats here, because the colors in the sky, water, and city are what matter most to me.

3) You are with a group of people in a car, heading to a different town to see your favorite band. Suddenly, the car breaks down for an unknown reason in the middle of nowhere. What are your initial thoughts? What are your outward reactions?

I think my initial thoughts would be along the lines of "okay, no biggie, we'll find a way to fix this," and my outward reactions would be supportive and catered to the needs of the driver, who is in this scenario having the worst day out of all of us. If I had an inkling of what was going on (smell, sights under the hood, etc) I would suggest those to the driver, but otherwise just let the driver decide how they would like to proceed and help out with their plan.

4) You somehow make it to the concert. The driver wants to go to the afterparty that was announced (and assure you they won't drink so they can drive back later). How do you feel about this party? What do you do?

I would probably feel a little drained from the concert (I usually am after concerts,) but I also know that I could handle more--I'm not usually one to hold back other people from new and exciting experiences because of my own needs, and although I would be tired and ready to go have some alone time, I would try and stay open to the idea that I could enjoy myself at this afterparty too. I'll get my alone time eventually, and let's be honest, the driver probably needs some fun after what happened to their car ;)

5) On the drive back, your friends are talking. A friend makes a claim that clashes with your current beliefs. What is your inward reaction? What do you outwardly say?

I'm not sure what kind of beliefs this is about, and that could change things for me. I'm a bit more sensitive towards not challenging religious beliefs because I think that's deeply personal and I never want to attack somebody for their religious beliefs. For all beliefs I definitely tend to ask questions and try to understand where that person is coming from and why more than I tend to challenge a statement. Unless I am VERY close with those people, I likely won't share my views on the subject unless I am explicitly asked to.

6) What would you do if you actually saw/experienced something that clashes with your previous beliefs, experiences, and habits?

Change is an idea I strongly believe in. I think that it is important to embrace the possibility of changing your actions, your thoughts, and your worldview if you find something that works better for you. I value keeping an open mind and heart, and I try to find a good balance for me between facts, experiences, principles, etc. So as long as there is sufficient evidence that something clashes with my previous expectations, I'm open to change. With that said, I weigh these things out very heavily and seriously, and I take my time coming to conclusions. I'm not one to say, instantly convert to a religion on a feeling or whim. I ask "why?" first.

7)What are some of your most important values? How did you come about determining them? How can they change?

Whenever I think of what I value most, the first word that comes to mind is "empathy." I've always had a great sense for other's feelings and motivations, and I think that a continued practice of empathy for others can make me a better person, and make the world a better place. I'm not perfect in following this, but I strive to most days, especially when somebody is acting in a way that hurts me. Trying to come to an understanding of others helps me act in ways that can maybe make other people's lives better.

I'm not trying to sound high and mighty. I feel like I'm coming off as pretty pretentious. Sorry all :)

8) What about your personality most distinguishes you from everyone else? b) If you could change one thing about your personality, what would it be? Why?

I guess this is going to come back to my strongest value. I don't think I'm unique in my love affair with empathy at all, but I think it's what my past partners and best friends notice and like about me. I'm someone who will give everything I have to make my loved ones comfortable and happy, and I'm very sensitive to people's needs and how to fill them. Other winning words include "observant," "quiet," and "sensitive." I am also a VERY private person, which I think might be a little more rare. This is the thing I would change about myself, because establishing new friendships and trusting others enough to open up is a struggle for me. I like to keep my cards close to my chest, I think even more so than at least 50% of the population.

9) How do you treat hunches or gut feelings? In what situations are they most often triggered?

I take my hunches and gut feelings very seriously, and I follow them but don't usually panic or freak out because of them (i.e. dark and spooky forest at night, hearing a bear or some large animal, and being okay with just turning everyone around silently and walking away from the noise.) They are most often triggered in social situations--specifically group settings/dynamics. I tend to feel like I know what most people in the room are feeling at most times and I think I'm okay at addressing those needs for them.

10) a) What activities energize you most? b) What activities drain you most? Why?

a) Being around my loved ones and b) being around my loved ones. Ha. Let's try that again: a) Being around my loved ones (in small groups for short amounts of time), painting, listening to music, looking at pretty things in nature (sunsets on the bay!) and b) being around my loved ones (or any people, in large groups for long amounts of time). I have a pretty damn big family, and there are too many children! I LOVE children, and I love my family, but too much chaos for too long wears me out because I'm so freaking busy taking everything in at once. Too much stimulation. I already know I'm introverted, so there's your answer to that one.

11) What do you repress about your outward behavior or internal thought process when around others? Why? Insecurities, any childish emotions or indignation.

Wow, what a loaded question! I'm pretty sure I have a resting bitch face, so I often try to repress that. Otherwise, I am easily hurt by any kind of critique, and I think I hide it very well in public, and then go and feel the hurt when I'm alone. It's not a good habit and I try to work on it, because I know that criticism can help me be a better person. I don't like to show my emotions to others, and I don't like to reveal when I am struggling with something until it is absolutely necessary. When I'm having a bad time, or I'm upset with somebody, I do a pretty good job of not showing it (unless it's somebody I am especially close to.) I'm not sure what this question is asking entirely, but I hope that helps.

Thanks to anyone who reads this--hopefully you find some form of entertainment in it :)
