[3e] Help picking charms for my character.
So, this is my first time playing 3e, and the last time I played Exalted was a long while ago, so suffice to say I'm not completely sure what I'm doing. Here's the deal, to start with, each person in the party is only getting 5 charms. We'll be gaining the rest over the course of the first few sessions. We're also not starting with the bonus points. Since we're all new to the game, the ST will also give us times where we can rebuild our characters. With that said, here's my character so far:

Story: Ilhum was never the smartest man, and certainly not the fastest. He was trained with a blade, but did not excel in it compared to other soldiers. His greatest asset was likely his ability to persevere, even against incredible odds. Any fight he was in, he refused to stay down. The sort to remain set in his ways, his resolve kept him charging in the front lines, so long as the cause was just. In the southern lands that he called home, there was always a war to be fought.
One day, the battle seemed certain to be lost. The commander whose troops Ilhum was a member of had abandoned them, running off to save himself. The enemy vastly outnumbered them 5 to 1, and possessed greater weapons and resources. All hope seemed lost. He refused to surrender however. Sword and shield in hand, he charged forward, letting out a fierce battle cry. In this moment, upon taking his second wind, Ilhum also gained his second breath. His battle cry resounded throughout, bolstering his allies and allowing them to fight on with renewed vigor. He was the only member of his army to survive the battle.
Refusing to let that be the end of his tale, Ilhum began journeying around the near south. Wherever he went, he tried to help by inspiring the locals. He aided in slave revolts, gave his sword to what he deemed just causes, and assisted in the capturing of dangerous criminals. Ilhum always played the role of a supporter in these cases, fighting alongside, and never for the people, encouraging them to stand for themselves. He witnessed more successes than failures, but it was those few times where hope shone through that made it all worthwhile.
His travels took him north, and eventually west, where a chance encounter had him meet with another exalted. The Twilight Solar proved to be a capable crafter, and her skills, he realizes, may be what is needed to help the people. Deciding to travel with her, he helps to keep her safe in return for her help in empowering those who need it.
So, that's what I have for my character so far. We have two dawn caste solar with us as well who will likely handle most of the fighting. He's capable enough to hold his own in a fight if need be, but Ilhum's primary purpose is more of a face. He'll try to stop combat without bloodshed if possible. If not, then he gives support to his allies to help bolster them while also focusing enemy attention on him.
I was wondering what charms would be best to take for this, and if the merits I picked were good options. For character creation, here is some things that I've decided on, both to fit my character, and to make the ST's life easier:
I won't be taking the command merit any time soon, or anything else that introduces extra combatants. Not only can it bog the game down, but it could potentially step on the toe of other players. Besides, he's traveling to a new land where he doesn't really know anyone yet.
I'm looking for charms that can halt fighting, give boosts to allies, and keep myself and allies alive.
I didn't take any artifacts or the like because I wasn't sure if any existed that would fit my character. I had been thinking of a helm that keeps him from getting frightened or bolsters his friends or something, but even then, for the most part I'm not going near artifacts at the moment.
No sex related merits or charms.
My character doesn't lie. Ever. He only attempts to deceive or manipulate if it is the absolute only choice. Intimidation is also far down his list. He is diplomatic first and foremost, and will always try to get others to repent or see the error of their ways.
That's about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
