BKA comming up, ERTL or no?
I have a BKA scheduled for 9/27. My doc needs to know whether I want to have the ERTL procedure done as well. There is a study I can enter into that randomizes the procedure, but I rather make the call. I know it adds to the surgery time and also recovery, but from his experience there isn't enough data to tell whether the procedure truly increases function long term. I figured I would throw the question out here if anyone has had this procedure and can comment. On the flip side he said there are tens of thousands of people that function just fine without the ERTL procedure. Also, with my surgery they need to remove a tibial nail and clamp off a vascular bypass going to my foot. Just wanted thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.
