Main character a young boy. Setting, a house (his grandmother's?). There are paintings of black cats. At night the cats come to life and hunt rats. The boy hides in a cupboard or small cabinet and watches or listens (hiding in very small spaces is a theme). In the morning the cats are paintings again but with red on their mouths from hunting the rats. Style, painterly, black and white, almost a Japanese swooshy aesthetic.
