Who has gone from inpatient to outpatient full time?
Hello everybody!
So right now, I work full time at a inpatient step down and I do an outpatient clinic prn as a side job.
Right now, im kind of getting killed inpatient wise as i think I'm getting burnt out and just getting tired of hospital politics. At the same time, I'm trying to figure out if this is the kind of unit I want to stay on for the long term and I don't see myself here in 5 or 10 years. I've been a nurse for around 3 years and been working step down for a majority of my career. I've been looking at other units and other areas to work but in my side of California, it could mean nights and lower totem pole politics. Competition is always tough despite having experience.
And because of that, I'm thinking about just staying outpatient full time. The outpatient clinic is pretty basic nursing wise, it's not challenging but it's not overtly stressful. Pay is a little bit lower. No weekends. Hours could be 8 or 12 days. Benefits are different. Long term wise, I have no idea where it would lead to...
Overall, I'm thinking about just making the jump in a few weeks/ incoming months.
But I do have concerns and want to hear your thoughts and experience
-
those who have made the jump, any regrets? I feel like I will lose a lot of my nursing skills going outpatient.
-
do you ever feel like a disgrace? I always been a competitive and by jumping to outpatient, I feel I'm just taking the easy way out
-
I feel like months from now, I'll be posting the opposite how I miss inpatient
Sincerely
