What are the different kinds of strategy games, and what would be a good genre or game for a complete beginner?
I've been playing some Rimworld, and I love it. But I want to stop and wait for more updates to come out before I sink more hours into it.
I never played a Sim City game, but I have played some Command and Conquer and Army Men games.
I like the idea of starting primitive, getting better technology, and being able to have people/or groups of people specialized for certain things, like hunting, gathering, crafting, building, attacking, defending, etc.
I also like being able to trade with other factions.
I own:
Tropico 4
Star Wars: Empire at War
Civ 5
Company of Heroes Complete pack
X-Com Enemy Unknown
Shadowrun Returns
Toy Soldiers
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Warhammer 40k Dawn of War GOTY
Agarest: Generations of War
Gratuitous Space Battles
Multiwinia + Darwinia
Space Pirates and Zombies
Populous
and
Command and Conquer pack
Thse are in no particular order and I'm sure some aren't even strategy. I just ent to Steam, clicked Strategy, and looked for the games I had in my library.
I've started a few of these up, but never really got into them. I loved Command and Conquer Red Alert Retaliation on PS1, and got the 17 pack for like $5. I got Civ 5 because of a comment on here that made it sound super addictive, but I couldn't really understand the tutorial. Most of the other games i got in bundles or for free.
I'm not really sure where to start. I've heard amazing things about the Civ series, X-Com, and Tropico, as well as Cities: Skylines. But these look really intimidating to me, so I'd like to start small.
Any advice?
