Fear of Rogues

So I know a lot of people have bad experiences with Rogues (PCs) in their party. Sorry if this has been brought up one too many times, because here it is again...

I'm looking to try D&D again, after trying it twice in the past for a few sessions each. The RP side of this game really appeals to me. I like random crazy and fun scenarios that play out with different personality types. However, I have a bad taste in my mouth from seeing how Rogues are played and the experience with the ones in the sessions I was a part of.

My biggest pet peeve is in combat or in dungeons in general. Where Rogues seem to get away with metagaming often to max their utility/damage/awesomeness. For example: Rogues stealthing every two seconds when the game rules permit it, but it really doesn't seem feasible at that time or there would be no reason for it (without the real life players knowledge of an upcoming threat). Or where a rogue disengages every turn and Stealth's for the sneak attack damage. I've seen this used in ridiculous ways where it fits the rules but in reality would never work (by reality, if a fantasy world full of dungeons and dragons was reality... lol)

I feel the Rogues in a party often dominate the gameplay and time played because the game rules force it so.

Every dungeon the Rogue Stealth's ahead to scout out any threats. Every door we encounter has to be checked by the Rogue for traps and picked to open. Every round I get to listen to the Rogue repeat how they sneak up and stab the foe in the knock for 60 sneak attack critical poison damage.

Am I just being nit picky or does this ever bother anybody else?

Edit: I guess to clarify a bit, my experience has been with players who have no interest in Role Playing for the most part. It's the type of players I've seen playing Rogues that seems to be common amongst the sessions I've seen.

While I understand this isn't an "absolute" and not all Rogues are played like this.
