Pawn Training help

so i was reading this post https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma/comments/438wrv/training_your_pawn_properly_is_my_pawn_retarded/ and i want o make sure that what i was reading was correct. i want to make a strider pawn that will grapple and attack weak points a lot. so in order to do i will have to set him as a strider then i have to play as a strider with him. then go find big creatures and just grapple and attack the weak points. do this for a while then i can switch back to magic archer and he will just keep on grappling/attacking weak points? and could i just stay as a magic archer and just grapple/ attack weak points?
