Anyone else notice fishy named bottom gym accounts?
I've been noticing this pattern a lot everywhere. It was never unusual to see a first floor Magikarp, Weedle or whatever chilling at the bottom of the gym for people to train up. People would seemingly take turns taking one for the team when leveling up gyms around town but as of late, a lot of odd names bottom floor(s) guys have been popping up. For example, my local library, outlet and church had guys named like these at the bottom floors respectively:
- Xx(word)420xX (floor 1), x(word)420x (floor 2)
- Cool(word)PL (floor 1), Cool(word)JL (floor 2), etc
- Little(word)xX (floor 1), Little(word)xXX (floor 2)
Before, I would have just assumed they were buddies, family, couples or whatever but instead of rotating by taking turns getting the bottom floors, these accounts that are usually sub lvl 10 are always at the bottom floors with weak Pokemon. I pay attention to names since I clear several gyms daily and it's not the same guys just taking turns. It could be a coincidence of experienced players telling their low lvl friends doing it just for the coins and that's why I haven't reported anyone.
So why does this matter? Well, think about the possibilities if it's a single player doing this. Instead of getting a group of players to powerlevel gyms, all you do is create some backup accounts, fluff floors 1-3 with sub 50 CP Pokemon with them and suddenly, a challenger has to take down your main account's actual defender a total of 2-x times depending on how many alts they put there before they actually get knocked off of the gym.
Anyone else notice this? I didn't start minding until this weekend when I stumbled upon many gyms using this throwaway account strategy and noticed how tough to beat some gyms were getting if raised to higher levels. Not as much as legit gyms with good defenders of every floor of course, but it seems like a dirty strategy if people are indeed using alts to fluff those gyms since the TOS states you can't have more than one account.
