Any advice for someone considering birth control?

Hi im not entirely sure this is the place to ask BUT I have just been prescribed Min-ovral and I haven't decided whether or not I should make the switch to birth control - I was wondering what people's experiences were in terms of going on birth control and what they wish they new before they did. My biggest reasons for considering birth control are extreme pain and cramping, amd heavy and long periods.
