Anyone using the Steam controller regularly?
I think this was asked when the controller first came out. Since Day 1, it's never worked well for me, but I don't know if it was because the controller was new, the community was new, or "sry fixing OSX bugs later".
I tried it last week and am still not sure what to expect. By default, do I have to pick a config from the Community configs for most games? Or is the default mapping supposed to work with most modern games? Because...it's not doing either, really. Since there are so few this-year AAA games out on OS X, I've only tried it on simpler independent games, such as Towerfall, Nidhogg, and Binding of Isaac. But no luck. For some reason right now, no matter what config I use, the main button ("A") is mapped to ESC. The gamepad sort of works though, but since I can't get past the first screen, can't really say for sure.
OTOH, the PS4 controller, like the Xbox controller, just works. Even for older games like HL2. I understand (or rather, assume) that the Steam controller is not trying to work with the traditional joystick option that games have, but still kind of weird that it's having so much trouble.
OTOH I was an early adopter so maybe I set some initial configs that are borking things? I can't really complain much since Valve promised all early OSX Steam controller owners free Valve games, past, present, and future...OTOH, they really haven't released anything for a long time :).
The one exception I've found is Shovel Knight. That game just worked with the Steam controller. But that game is magic in every other way so I'm not surprised.
