What business was at 2623 east broad before Captain Buzzy's?

I'm trying to solve a riddle and cannot find the property records from 2003 for whatever was there before the current occupant. Any help from Church Hill folk?

I've looked at news from richmondbiz sense, style weekly and richmond.com. no luck.

I came in to drop these here, but got beat!

I remember being in one incarnation of this place, they had woodpussy incense for sale.

Thanks! I think I took a wrong turn in trying to solve this thing.

I lived around the corner on the 2700 block of E Grace in 1998 and there was a TERRIBLE little grocery store there. Don't remember the name, but wasn't a place I ever considered stepping into.

Thanks! I must have gotten a previous clue in the riddle wrong. Something about "before the captain there was a general"

Like a general store?

Maybe!

Quick Check!

I lived a few blocks from that location over 15 years ago. It was a little general store. Like a quick market. I went there a few times for stuff like a can of cat food or an onion. It was the only place to shop if you didn't have a car and didn't want to wait for a bus.

I know the answer!!!!!!!!!

u/fishmapper might want to find out on his own, but I'll bite. PM me the answer? This riddle has absorbed too much of my soul to go unanswered.

It was a shithole store. Then I think it was abandoned for a bit.

What riddle were you trying to solve?

2
fishmapperOPLakeside•

Start where Patrick Henry said give me liberty or give me death

Walk past the pies

Before the captain comes a general

In what residence was his recovery?

That seems like the answer may be some Civil War general that lived on Broad. Doesn't match any local trivia I know.

Yeah, I think I need to hit the street there and look for clues. I've exhausted everything I can think of for street view / internet searches

I got nothing. Im interested in the answer, if you find it.

u/john_c_x does this riddle ring any bells?

So I started with St. John's church. Past the pies - proper pie co Before the captain I'm guessing is the quick check (general store?)

Danger-MooseLakeside•

Is there some clue as to who "his" is referring to? I agree with everything leading up to the last part...

2
fishmapperOPLakeside•

No, no clues for who "his" recovery is. The general, which is why the quick check market/general store doesn't really make sense.

I think the 'Captain'' is referring to Buzzys, but somewhere between Proper Pie and Buzzys (roughly two blocks), there must be a plaque or marker regarding 'the general.' I cant find anything online, so far.

Yep, a fuzzy memory of there being such a thing

Yeah that's what I was thinking also. It was easy up to the general. Can't see it from street view, if it's there.
