As much as I like seeing OSU up there, I would be more confident with their spot if they beat OU.
How in the hell is Notre Dame ranked 9th?
And Texas 4 spots behind them.
I think it's pretty reasonable to have watched that game and come away with the impression that despite the outcome Notre Dame is a better team than Texas. If Brian Kelly was smart and had just played DeShone Kizer the whole game I think ND probably would have won in regulation. As it is, they still forced overtime while being on the road in an insane environment.
That said, I think head-to-head results should definitely trump that argument.
Hypotheticals don't work in college football.
Clemson beat am established program on the road, and when FSU got rolling they looked like one of if not the best team in the country. So I'm gonna have to disagree with this. I think 4 is just right.
I mean 77-10 is a great win, but it was against Bowling Green. I don't think it deserves a boost in the polls.
Man, I knew Michigan shouldn't have ran the clock out up 63-3!! Another TD and we could've passed Florida State for 4th in the CBS Sports 128 and made the playoffs!! /s
Last year we were beating bowling green quality teams by 7 to start the season.
I'm not jumping on the hype train just yet. But we look much better than the world expected
It might be a crazy thought... But I think we're a better team with JT running the offense and not Zeke doing everything with jones making a big throw every now and then
Also there may be just as many first round picks on this team as last year.
Hooker, Conley, Sam Hubbard, Curtis Samuel, pat elflein, Raekwon
And a heisman candidate 3/4 round qb in JT Barrett
The Buckeyes looked great, but against a lesser opponent. I'm just against upward poll movement for wins versus non-Power 5 opponents.
I'm also not crazy about seeing Louisville so high. Need to earn that kind of ranking in week 3 and then legitimize it in week five.
Way too high. I see at least six teams on that top 25 list that I would put in front of Louisville right now. Maybe if they look good this weekend.
Don't doubt Bobby P
I have the upmost confidence in Petrino-- I just prefer to see Louisville earn a top ten ranking first.
I want Louisville to be respected like an FSU/Clemson type football program, but they need to beat those teams to get there first.
Gives up 50 points, ranked 9th. Ok.
Dropping 61 spots has to be some kind of record
I kinda thought they should be up there pretty high anyway. I know they lost players but Ohio State has no issues filling them in year after year.... after year.
Let's dismiss the fact that this poll is utter shit. But I'm just curious, is OSU really one of the best 5 teams in the country this year you guys think? They lost a ton of playmakers. Just curious. Looking forward to catching the OU game.
Offensively? Easily top 5. JT Barret is on fire, Mike Weber looks like our next iteration of great RB, and we have about 25 good/talented WR's. Offensive line also looked up to par but depth is a concern
Defensively? Still a top 15. This side needs a lot more work. Secondary and Interior Line are fairly weak but filled with unproven talent. If they can become more organized and consistent, we'll have a championship caliber team talent wise.
In the end it all comes down to Urban. With the way he recruits and the way he coaches, it's hard to doubt Ohio State as a top 5 program every year while he's at the helm (just like with Saban at Alabama)
Ugh. I guess me wanting Urban to go away so Saban can just reign supreme is the exact way OSU fans feel. Lol.
How do you guys feel about facing Mayfield with such a young secondary?
I'm a bit concerned but it also depends on what pressure we can put on Mayfield. I'm sure we can take a lot from the Houston game on how to stop the Oklahoma offense. However if the game turns into a shootout, I'm not too concerned
Number 2 right now? Hell no. But they have the kind of playmakers that could POTENTIALLY equal if not surpass the ones that won the CFP 2 years ago. Replacing the offensive weapons is not the biggest concern. The main issue is the DL depth, specifically interior DL. Losing a starter for the season week 1 along with the fact that they were already a bit thin there may create some serious problems for them later in the season.
I think they could be top 5 by the end of the season after they have jelled. Who else is there? Bama, Clemson, can't figure out FSU, Houston, maybe Michigan. I'm not riding the Texas hype train yet, and no clue about the Pac 12. Stanford and their RB seem to be legit.
It kind of like wanting to fire your coach: who do you get to replace him? If OSU isn't top 5, who is? I think OSU has the potential to beat anyone this year.
1 Alabama
2 Ohio State
3 Clemson
4 Florida State
5 Michigan
6 Houston
7 Stanford
8 Louisville
9 Notre Dame
10 Ole Miss
11 Oklahoma
12 Georgia
13 Texas
14 Wisconsin
15 Texas A&M
16 Washington
17 Iowa
18 LSU
19 Michigan State
20 TCU
21 Baylor
22 Boise State
23 Tennessee
24 UCLA
25 Oklahoma State
FSU 2nd half was dominating. I'm sure they are at 4 because of their 1st half ridiculousness but I don't see how you look past what they did in the 2nd half.
How does 'Cuse drop 5 spots after a 33-7 win? I get it's Colgate but how does it drop us?
I'd guess they thought 5 other teams were better, but honestly this poll is shit.
11 sounds about right
Number 8? Hold on there a little CBS, I'll take a good 12-15 ranking. No need to jump us up so fast.
I think I would like to taste the Kool Aid at CBS Sports.
Lol. Ole Miss goes up after losing a game.
And we fall like 12 spots for winning one. I mean Im not totally mad about that we looked bad but I am surprised to see us fall that far.
you're still ranked and almost lost to App state (divine acts of god and a freshman kicker for a sun-belt team are the only reason you didnt). a lesser pollster like myself has already dropped you guys out of the top 25.
Better drop MSU and TCU then too.
for winning by multiple touchdowns and not being taken to overtime?
