Three weeks ago I posted about my dad participating in the 1977 yamagata prefecture arm-wrestling championships and was trying to find out more. We finally got in contact with him and were able to find out where he was living and visit him after 39 years. They both were really excited to see each other and have been talking for a long time now.

For fun, yeah. Namba's an old guy, but still very strong.

Grandpa strength.

I wonder if anyone in my family took part in that. My dad was born in Yamagata City 55 and left for the states in 77 or 78, so it seems plausible.

How'd you convince your dad to visit Japan? Or did you finally have to tell him the surprise?

He was planning on going to his old areas anyway, I just managed to help find Namba.

That's so awesome. I did something similar, and after hearing him bitch and moan about the hour car trip, was so worth it to see his face when he met his old friend.

Glad to hear it! I was wondering how it turned out for you, op.

I love this! I bet they last time they armed wrestled, neither expected to see each other again. I'm glad you tracked him down and made their lives richer for it.
