BEAKERHEAD-ITEMS STOLEN FROM DISPLAY @ East Village Display

Someone stole some very important items from the East Village Space ship at Beakerhead. An AlienWare laptop was stolen with ALL the files for the ship display as well as other pieces of valuable equipment.

Here is the FB post from the Co owner of Beama Visual

"Putting out this call now in the hopes that our community can help us out. Some truly awful people broke into our site last night and stole equipment from the BASS Ship (yes, from the free public art installation we're running) including our LD's alienware laptop with all his content and scene files. Please keep your eyes and ears peeled for any info or suspicious behaviour and contact us if you feel you might know anything about the people who did this. These laptops are very expensive and not particularly common around here, and it breaks my heart that this could happen at an event like Beakerhead, where we've all been working so hard to bring joy and inspiration to the people. Thank you"

THIS SHIT NEEDS To be RETURNED ASAP!

Please share this on all social media

My thoughts exactly.

Theft in the East Village?! No way!

Representin_587•

I refuse to accept that is even a possibility, gentrification has taken hold in the East Village in an outpouring of ethnic and economic diversity where crime has been eliminate by a shared urban vision and sense of common purpose.

Are you on drugs?

Representin_587•

No, I am just in full embrace of Calgary's urban future and the East Village is the heart of that. It is a wonderful and diverse community, rumours of crime and social dysfunction in the East Village are propagated by the sprawl development industry who want you to buy a quarter-acre in Cochrane. They are invested in the downfall of the city, I am not.

An AlienWare laptop was stolen with ALL the files for the ship display

Surely they have offsite backups of the files... right?

7
bd42OP•

Yes they do.But there was other important equipment that is needed for the display that was stolen as well.Equipment that is valuable and not easily replaced.

Bobert_Fico•

If you aren't able to find it and it isn't insured, consider crowdfunding to replace it. I'm sure that a lot of people, myself included, would pitch in.

How do they not have insurance to cover this stuff? I'm sorry let's leave thousands of dollars of equipment legitimately unguarded... This is why you assume the absolute worst of people.

1
Gorekong•

Insurance doesn't work quite like that.

There is a deductible (usually 500-1000) so most of the cost of the laptop and software will be on the victim.

The insurance company will not compensate you for your lost data, they will not recover it for you, they will not compensate your time. So you are on the hook for all the work to get your new machine back to functional.

That's all provided you even got theft insurance, and that you haven't done any of the many things that absolve the insurance company of liability.

I guarantee they have the data backed up I'm pretty sure they are worried about the laptops actual hardware thy are after. Or you know take shit home with you at night it s an expensive lesson to learn but a lesson none the less.

LPT; Do not leave valuables in a vehicle overnight.

Wasn't in a locked vehicle,It was on site with security, but security was lured away from site by someone causing problems in the parking lot,so it was a set up

People who must have engaged in the exhibit that day. Too bad no CCTV on site during day. Could have security guy compare the guy causing commotion at night with videos from the day. ... Or maybe Ive been watching too much Brooklyn 99

Its better than nothing but those Kensington locks are barely held in inside the laptop.

Agreed. That being said a bit disappointing how flimsy they are. Tore apart hundreds of laptops. The majority just had a plastic loop.

Damn, an Alienware, that sucks.

2
isthatpoo_onyourfaceScenic Acres•

Meh, overpriced imo, I went with an MSI.

3†
ziggster_Acadia•

Agreed, they are overpriced. It's the equivalent of buying a Macbook Pro in the PC world. At least you can play PC games on them though I guess.

The MSI runs all my games no issues (even Ark).

overpriced if you dont know how to use dell's website.

when you stack those coupons you can get it cheaper than the cheapest gaming laptop, just gotta know what you are doing.

but yeah MSi is good, i picked up a GS43VR the other day and threw in a 950 pro, its smoking fast now.

Never payed for my Alienware (Dell reps are great).

I have an msi and frankly I miss my Asus. You can't even pick it up from some spots or it wrecks your cd. The battery is a joke... Reformating Is a nightmare because of the total lack of drivers for my model.

isthatpoo_onyourfaceScenic Acres•

Really? I have had zero issues with mine. Sucks to hear you having a hard time.

1
Penqwin•

Yea, the Asus ROG line is good. But slightly more expensive compared to MSI :(

1
[deleted]•

Trust me when I tell you you won't miss asus's warranty

i wonder why everyone says this... i broke the jack on my Asus ROG G53JW and they did 2 way paid shipping over night for me, even picked it up on a Saturday from my house.

when i got it back they gave me a free 2nd hdd bracket and obviously the problem was fixed.

1
Justme11235•

Well I'm glad they left you your caps lock key at the very least.

I met the guys who put up the installation, this makes me sad cause they seemed so nice and stoked on their project.

I hope the assholes who stole the laptop are caught.

I think you don't understand how much equipment they have to run that thing. Besides lap tops they have professional grade A/V equipment. Its a big set up.
