Is G-Sync that important?

So I'm in the market for a new monitor and my question is this: Is G-Sync that important?

I'm paranoid that I'm going to be missing out by buying a 144hz Monitor without G-Sync and that my games are going to look terrible without G-Sync.

I currently have a GTX 1060 and I see plenty of highly rated 144hz monitors in my price range but I don't want to feel like I'm massively missing out. Plus G-Sync is just so damn expensive! Freesync seems to be more readily available and affordable...I'm not sort of regretting my GTX 1060 purchase.

I just want a good 24inch monitor...why is this so complicated!?
