How to spec your Hero (Character-agnostic)
So I've seen a lot of threads started and more than a few have been helpful for new players (and even some experienced ones). I haven't seen anything about these builds posted into the sticky posts or in the FAQ, so I thought I'd create one that's generally character agnostic so you can determine how you're going to spend your skill points on each hero.
Quick Note: I rotate actively between Anika and Lucas and get a lot of input from my guild and these forums about specs, but this is simply a basic cookie-cutter starting point. I don't know the in's and out's of every class, and there's a lot of different ways to play, so just start here and figure out the rest with your own experimentation.
Buying all 50 skill points is arguably one of the best things you can do for a solid boost, at least once you're in mostly Immortal gear.
PVE spec:
- Passives:
- Offense (5/5), Defense (5/5), Crit (5/5), Crit Damage (5/5), HP (5/5)
** Don't start spec'ing into Counter improvements or Debuff reduction until all your skills and primary combo (i.e. knockdown) are complete
-
SKILLS:
-
Pick your 3 favorite skills -- gear options/boss farming/rift/raid setups may need different skills for optimal results. (level 52 may not always be useful on all heroes, in all situations)
-
Upgrade them from left to right until all 20 points are full in your primary skills (CDR or "Wisdom" can be extremely helpful on hard bosses, but may not be necessary for all heroes or for all setups)
-
Don't put points into anything you're not equipping
-
Combo:
-
Pick one combo that you use most often. Since I utilize the knockdown more than any other combo, that's the one I've invested in... although for chapter bosses, you may consider upgrading the Stun combo instead.
-
Upgrade your chosen combo from left to right as you get points (as with skills, CDR may not be necessary for all heroes or all builds)
PVP Spec:
-
Passives:
-
Offense (5/5), PVP Offense (5/5), Defense (5/5), PVP Defense (5/5), Crit (5/5), Crit Damage (5/5), HP (5/5)
-
Counters are risky in PVP, but if you've got the opportunity and skill to use it well, the rewards can pay off in a big way.
-
SKILLS:
-
Pick your 3 favorite skills (level 52 is almost mandatory at end game)
-
Upgrade them from left to right until all 20 points are full in your primary skills
-
Don't put points into anything you're not equipping
-
Combo:
-
Pick one combo that you use most often. Since I utilize knockdown more than any other combo, that's the one I've invested in...
-
Upgrade your chosen combo from left to right as you get points
Generally speaking, you want to improve your passives before working on skills before working on combos. The reason buying all the skill points is so helpful is because you can finish your passive setup very early on, giving you all future points to spend on skills/combos.
My last tip for everyone is to experiment with your skills, just because something is cookie-cutter doesn't mean it's going to work best for you. One player's idea for min/maxing will only work well for their play style and gear setup. If you've got a maxed out weapon option that improves your stun combo damage by 25%, I'd highly suggest that you capitalize on that by spec'ing into your stun combo even more!
Happy Gaming!
Here's a generic skill choice based on what I've seen... yours may be different, this is nothing more than a suggestion to start with!
| Anika | Hugo | Kiki | Lucas |
|---|---|---|---|
| Death's Pummel (1) | Fierce Strike of Doom (2) | Chain Lightning (2) | Raging Strike (1) |
| Ruining Whirl (3) | Circle of Rage (3) | Mana Rupture (3) | Sword of Energy Rupture (5) |
| Leaping Bash (6) | Roar of Triumph (6) | Magic Circle Explosion (6) | Destructive Charge (6) |
Feel free to experiment with your skills and combos and alter this as your equipment and playstyle dictates!
