No worries :) it's supposed to be a bit of a ironic piece (is that the right word, ironic?) Like, hey, I don't know what's wrong with me but let me tell you what's wrong with me.

Oh my bad man, I didn't know whether or not the preface was part of it

See, to be completely honest, the preface is as much a part of the poem as the two words are, and it's supposed to provide context. I agree with you, it would be easier to understand the hurt if I wrote more about it but quite frankly, that takes away from the point of the piece. When I wrote it, I myself didn't understand the hurt, where it came from or anything about it either than I was in an intense state of pain.

The greatest quality of this piece is also its most inhibitive, in my opinion. The brevity of it breaks traditional poetic boundaries, but I think that there isn't enough substance. Everyone has hurt. What makes your hurt different? I think if you were to channel your pain into a longer poem, it would accomplish much much more.

Assuming that the preface is part of the poem, I really like this.  The preface makes it feel so personal, so the banality of the two words becomes much more impactful.  That being said, it does come across as a bit too "cute" given it's short length.  I think experimenting with the form of the preface - separating out the lines instead of making it one paragraph - could draw the poem out a bit.

I love this piece. As someone who writes infrequently and often out of intense emotion that I'm simply not able to process at the time I can connect with this really well. I see the preface as the internal dialogue that is unable to be explained and the "I hurt." as a generalization for what ends up being expressed. Exquisite.

The preface is as much the poem as those two words. 

Although some wouldn't classify this as a poem, I think it's extremely powerful. These two words encapsulate so much intense emotion. It's also quite ambiguous, as it could mean 'I hurt others' or 'I am hurting' or both...  I think that's the point of this poem... you hurt and so you're hurt, and you hurt because you're hurt.

Preface: In a moment of irrational anger and distress, I have decided to write. Much as always, my words are a medium of expression in which I can find solace and wash away my sins. Anything that you might read is not to be taken for face value, because if it were that easy, then I would understand what the hell I meant when I wrote it.
