I am really starting to like Melissa. I was surprised how many sketches she was in last night. Cold Open, Crucible Cast Party, Day-Off, Stranger Things, Substitute Teacher, and the old movie one.

She's the new Jay Pharoah. She'll give you solid impressions. That's her thing. But it remains to be seen if she has the comedic ability. I think that's what separates someone from Pharaoh from someone like Darrell Hammond. Hammond had some genuinely hilarious impressions. While Pharoah was undeniably gifted, my reaction to him usually was "oh that's a really good impression". Melissa's YouTube videos gave me the impression she'd need some really good writing, but she's had a nice start.

She's incredibly funny. I've been following her career for a while now, and I'm always surprised that she isn't more famous.

She's a great actress, comedian, singer, stand-up. It's pretty insane. I have a feeling she will be the next "breakout" star.

Especially the Asian line during the cold open this past Saturday. I realize that she likely didn't write it but the delivery was spot on!

It's always great when somebody succeeds, but it's even cooler when it's someone that you've known of for quite some time.

I loved her Sarah Silverman impression last week on the family feud skit. She's really talented.

She's very similar to Maria Bamford. She can almost do any sort of voice/impression, and then her actual speaking voice is pretty bizarre.

Speaking of Maria Bamford, her Melissa's impression of her is insane.

... Owen Wilson too!

Haha, I have noticed that about Melissa, her real speaking voice is kind of similar to how she sounded in the classroom sketch, where she sounded like Nasim Pedrad doing a "nerdy little kid" character.

I think the Asian line was to deflect from her own racist tweet scandal.

Yeah I saw that thing about her deleting thousands of tweets. Pretty weird. Most likely they were controversial jokes, SNL probably likes to think that they're pushing the envelope but they really play it incredibly safe and PC. I mean it's network TV. They really have to play it safe. I have no idea what any of those tweets were, but since she's a comedian they were most likely jokes. Twitter is a big platform for comedians.

People also need to realize that comedy will always be offensive in some way to some group of people for some reason. Most jokes can be seen as insulting to some person. There's always some trendy topic in comedy that is considered taboo, but people rarely ever consider the rest of the ethical content around an act unless it's some sort of a "buzz topic".

Pretty weird if you ask me. Here's a decent example: Louis C.K. has criticized a bunch of people for doing racist/horrible things but then the dude has said/tweeted things on record like this:

"kudos to your dirty hole, you fucking jackoff cunt-face jazzy wonder girl”

“I want to rub my father’s cock all over Sarah Palin’s fat tits”

“retard-making cunt"

Probably jokes, etc., but that's really a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Of course you can't make any comedy now about transgender people because that would be offensive. I'm sure there's also another "trendy topic" that I'm missing.

I'm not saying that I agree/disagree with any of these points, just trying to point out the hypocrisy. If you don't pay attention you wouldn't even know it's there.

Oh boy, another "It's only offensive if you make it out to be" response. No, they weren't even jokes, just really bitter tweets that a 14 year old would have made about black people. She's Cuban so I guess it's par for the course that she's racist.

Jon Rudnitsky had this debut marked by his juvenile tweets being exposed yet no one made a peep about this chick because they're still impressed she can do a mediocre Owen Wilson impression and want pats on the back for liking the new minority hire. But Jon's tweets were at least jokes-or attempts at jokes. This bitch just had 2000 tweets highlighting how stupid she was not deleting thay shit before trying out for SNL.

And I can't take you seriously if you're one of those people who complain about everything being so ~PC and that comedy has to debase everyone and hit you over the head with edgy offensiveness to be funny. That style is really passe and it has never even been SNL's signature style.

She's been auditioning to be on SNL since she was 21, and she's now 29, so I admire her persistance.
