At the Rehearsal Dinner
The children circled,
They were in the trenches,
We two a fortress wall.
Our conversation lingered in the air,
And the voyeur rose to interject.
A child splits us to roll on the floor,
And the old man can utter only two lines before returning to his seat.
Says he just got Parkinson’s like it was a new sweater.
Like common colds that warrant walkers.
Says he doesn’t shake yet.
A child climbs upon a bench, standing tall and bounding off.
You were dying before that,
We know.
All walls crumble eventually.
The children jumping, laughing.
Thanks for reading! working title, not sure what to call it.
