Deborah Lane
Take me to Deborah Lane
Where Nobody lives
And the trees never age
And the houses all stand alike
Take me to Deborah Lane
To stand beneath the burnt umber sky
And listen to the crows
And watch the same leaves fall
Over and over
Take me to Deborah Lane
Where the only people are monsters
Writhing down the road on tentacles
To get their mail
Take me to Deborah Lane
Let me knock upon the doors
The talk to me and they don’t see Me
I shake their tendrils
Take me to Deborah Lane
My house number is 23

I find myself very confused by the message of this poem kind of. For a couple reasons and maybe it's just me being dumb. There are contradictory statements when you say that people don't live there but they are monsters so I'm confused by that. Also the trees never age but the leaves are falling off with is contradictory. I love the repetition of "take me to Deborah lane" I just found myself quite confused while reading.
I was trying to go for the fact that there aren't any people, only monsters, and that while the trees never age, you can see the same leaves falling (kind of like a time loop!). Sorry it's confusing (the formatting glitched out on me as well, live and learn!) but thank you for reading and taking the time to comment!
Alright that makes sense thinking of it that way on the re-read. Thank you for clarifying for me
No problem! :)
