here's the box score. i was seven years old watching Brickhouse on TV after school. still think of this game every time we get a strong south wind.
you can watch Dave Kingman hit a ball to Milwaukee at 19:32 for his third dinger of the day. longest home run i've ever seen even now.
I think that's the longest home run ever on video.
EDIT: it's also as far as I know the longest home run that can be conclusively verified.
I don't know if it's still there, but there used to be a plaque in the front yard of the house where that ball landed to commemorate it.

It's going to end up being a pitchers duel. You heard it here first.
Nice call!

Dongers for days
I dug up some wind data for that day from ORD.
Winds were out of the south, with a peak sustained wind (for the day, not necessarily at game time) of 23 mph and peak gust to 30 mph.
Sounds familiar, eh?
This actually greatly adjusts my thought on the lineup should be. I'd lean toward Contreras in Left, Zobrist in Right, and Montero at C.
Tomlin has massive reverse splits... right handers hitting .299 against him. I doubt we see Montero until Tomlin is out of the game. I'd prefer to see Contreras catching, with Almora in RF.
I'd almost prefer Ross behind he plate, zobrist in right and contreras in left.
Kyle works well with Willson, I'd probably leave that but yeah, could go Ross too I guess.
Tomlin is (like Bauer) a reverse split pitcher, meaning he has had more difficulty with RHB despite being a RHP. with Hendricks pitching and the Indians' running game, i'd expect Willson to catch (as Ross has only caught Hendricks once this year). that would allow you to get Soler into LF with Zobrist in RF.
and on a day like today, Soler might go yard a couple times.
The idea of Soler defending in this wind, plus the fact he's been so off so far in this post-season makes me question if that's the right call.
fair points! i think today might be a day to load up offensively and tell Hendricks to get that sinker working to keep it in the park, but then i've never anticipated Maddon very well.
So I'm an Indians fan and hearing about the high wind and gusts to the SSW I looked up Wrigley Fields compass orientation with this site, http://www.baseball-almanac.com/stadium/ballpark_NSEW_NL.shtml, is this site not reliable because to me that would me the winds would be blowing straight into home plate.
They're out of the SSW
Oh, I thought the rule when talking wind was that you put the direction the wind in moving towards not away from, thank you for setting me straight.
Combine that with the fact that Tomlin is giving up a .299 average to right handed hitting... I'm predicting Baez goes deep a couple times tonight.
