I was in a bit of a dark mood when I wrote this
"Fall"
the leaves coagulate
red to maroon
sputter
flutter
drip
down
down
down
Autumn smiles
in wicked glee
through stained red
clouds: stretching teeth
across the horizon
as she sets the trees on fire
and watches the cinders
trickle down in heaps
skeletal branches
reach towards the sky
in frozen shock;
Winter will show them
no empathy
and their tears will freeze
to their mournful fingers
the charred corpses
pile up sporadically:
burning entrails
crackling crimson
until they are lost
to Autumn's sneering
smiling sky.
