We All Fall in Tug of War
Bit-off nails along the floor
Are poking my cold feet,
The nation's horror at the door
And nowhere to retreat
"He'll win we're doomed!"
"She'll win we're lost"
It all ends in defeat.
America hangs on the hinge
To see what end we'll meet.
"Just hold your nose and check the box,
At least she's not as bad."
"Struggle! Fight! Even throw rocks!
This woman's fucking mad!"
A red and blue misshapen box,
Our nation decked in plaid.
We all know each election morning
Most of us are sad.
Thick blood clots through the nation's heart,
While mold corrupts our hope.
A family now split apart,
And pulling on thin rope.
Our ties were thinning from the start,
A bland dramatic trope.
To either side the votes depart,
But neither side will cope.
Alas! The demagogue prevails!
The wicked whore is hung!
We cry, we cheer, the bells are rung,
We blame to no avail.
"Perhaps from this some change has sprung,
Perhaps she'll be in jail."
"Perhaps they'll cease to serve us dung
And watch our party fail."
Four years, four years, we'll numbly wait
And shiver in our skin.
Will our great nation bend to hate,
Or let new people in?
Will hungry lobbyists abate,
Or will they froth and grin?
Four years may save our nation's fate,
Or break us from within.
