The traditional path is to move to LA and try to find work as an assistant (showrunner's assistant, writers' assistant, agency assistant) and learn how the business works, then rise through the ranks (become a staff writer first, then a story editor, then a co-producer, and so on) until through luck and perseverance you have the opportunity to create or run a show of your own. In practice, every path is different. I started as a novelist. There are a lot of playwrights who've come here to work in TV. Executives, comedians, former lawyers... there's is no one path. You need to write constantly so that you have good material ready when an opportunity arrives (and you also have to work to make the opportunity arrive, by meeting people and finding work anywhere you can in the industry).

What are your thoughts on the original candle cove?
(I guess this is the ama thread.)

I like the original Candle Cove very much!
Thanks,
I like it too,(I was afraid before I saw the show that it would butcher it).
