Top 10 Trinkets in Binding of Isaac Afterbirth
##Hello everybody and welcome back to another Binding of Isaac AFTERBIRTH Top 10 post.
My sincerest apologies for these taking so long to come out, those that follow my YouTube would know that I'm in my first semester of college and it's harder to find time to game related stuff. Today we're looking at the Top 10 Trinkets in the Binding of Isaac Afterbirth. Trinkets are temporary items that Isaac can carry to provide a small temporary, or elongated benefit on a run. It should be noted that these are my Top 10 trinkets and you may disagree. This is a tougher list to make because trinkets are so situational that some may be better in certain circumstances. If you’d like to watch this instead of reading it, you can click right here Without further ado, let’s get started.
Honorable Mentions: Black Feather While many trinkets can fall under the honorable mentions since they are so circumstantial, I feel that the most honorable is a trinket that gives everybody's favorite stat: damage. Black feather gives a stacking +.2 damage upgrade for any of these items:
- Black Candle
- Ceremonial Robes
- Goat Head
- Match Book
- Missing Page 2
- Safety Pin
Since some of these items seem to show up regularly in runs, it's seemingly easy to get a decent damage upgrade from these items.
10. Maggy's Faith Maggy's faith is a unique trinket in the fact that if picked up on the first floor, it will give you 6 red heart health ups by the end of the run. That's an insane amount of HP from a single trinket! The only downfall of Maggie's faith is the fact that the HP comes in the form of an eternal heart and some less advanced players may not be able to protect the heart long enough. Some players also enjoy having more soul hearts than red hearts, thus proving the trinket worthless.
9. Ace of Spades Ace of Spades comes in on the list because of the value that cards have in Isaac. To increase the drop of cards in the game, this leads to more consumables from playing cards, the possibility of free items with teleports out of Boss Rush, and at times Deals with the Devil or Angel with Joker cards. Cards are definitely the better consumable in regards to cards or pills so to ensure you are getting more cards is a better benefit on the run.
8. Rusted Key Rusted Key comes in at #8 as a valuable trinket because it increases the number of keys and golden chests you find. I place a lot of value on golden chests on this list due to their ability to give consumables and items that can provide a sizable benefit on the run. Most trinkets are not meant to carry your run, just provide you with an extra key to success. Collecting extra keys that can then provide extra access to chests which gives extra consumables and the ability to get items like Guppy’s Head, Cricket’s Head, Steven and other great items.
7. Callus The Callus is definitely a circumstantial trinket but if received early, it can save a player from taking copious amounts of damage on a run and provide access to more consumables. Being able to walk over spikes allows for players to not accidentally take easily avoidable damage. C’mon we’ve all been there, you walk too fast into that room with a ton of spikes. The Callus also makes certain bosses like Mega Fatty, Peep, and yes even the Bloat, easier to defeat since creep no longer affects you. Obviously the effects of the Callus are completely eradicated if flight is found on a run, but without flight it is a great trinket.
6. Lucky Rock I feel like I am going to get some people to disagree with me on this one but allow me to explain. Lucky rock allows you to receive money from blowing up any rock entities on a run. This allows for essentially, unlimited money if you have a copious amount of bombs. This can lead to buying out entire shops, playing coin beggars, playing fortune machines, which ultimately gives you the best chance at winning your run. On the surface, having a lot of money may seem useless, and late game, it is. However early game, Lucky Rock can be incredibly useful.
5. Endless Nameless This is personally one of my favorite trinkets in the game, and many people do not even know what it does. Endless Nameless allows for any usable consumables like cards, pills, or runes to allow a second use of said card, pill, or rune. This can lead to insane synergies like carrying a Jera rune to the chest and then having endless nameless activate 4 times leading to 64 chests in your starting room. Or maybe you’re in desperate need of HP and that Hierophant card gets reused 3 times for 6 spirit hearts. Overall, Endless Nameless is a great trinket.
4. The Pennies I sort of hate myself for grouping a series of trinkets together but let’s be honest, they all share the same name. All of the pennies (okay maybe not butt penny) allow for an infinite number of consumables to drop which can provide a sizable benefit to the run. Bloody penny allows for infinite play of blood machines which can then lead to Blood Bag and infinite money. Or maybe you’re in desperate need of keys, flat penny has you covered. Oh you’re playing the Keeper? Need I say anymore?
3. Paper Clip Ayooooo we’re back to golden chests. Paper Clip is an incredible useful trinket that I feel many people look past. Being able to open Golden Chests for free leads to free items and a large array of consumables. Paired with Guppy’s Tail, the Paper Clip becomes borderline overpowered in its effect it has on the game. In my opinion, the Paper Clip makes Cain an actually enjoyable character to play in the game. And for that, it breaks the top 3 on my Top 10 Trinkets list.
2. Cancer Everyone knew this would either be #2 or #1 on the list but coming in at #2, the Cancer Trinket. Yay Cancer! Don't^ever^say^that^in^public^ever. The large increase in the rate of fire can be the only tear upgrade you need on a run. However, when paired with a high rate of fire, your tears state becomes borderline stupid. Not to mention that combining it with Mom’s Box of Trinkets doubles that rate of fire again. The DPS increase can carry your run unlike most other trinkets in the game. That puts it in at #2 on the list.
1. Curved Horn Everyone knew this would be either #1 or #2 but here it is. Curved Horn. The +2 damage curved horn brings can be a monumental damage upgrade to your run (in comparison, Synthoil is a +1 damage up). Paired with Mom’s Box of Trinkets is a huge +4 damage bonus which is actually stupidly good. It’s pure damage bonus to a run makes it strong enough to come in at #1 on the Top 10 Trinket List.
