It's simple - the new plastic models are on the way so this upgrade pack is obsolete.

Hah, and I've just finished painting 8 rubrics made with these parts yesterday...

Yeah, I started working on 16 Rubrics and now I see there is a new Thousand Sons speficic paint on the way...that I think I like better than what I've been using. :(

Simple Green is here for you.

5
slimCyke•

Oh lord how I hate that whole process. By the time I strip everything I've run out of the will to paint. :p

CelestianMiriya•

Use methylated spirits.

2
CptDred•

Yeah, specific paint looks nice but... I think I'll stick to my scheme :P

1
slimCyke•

I think I'll stick to the same base but try painting the new guys with the new highlights...I really love teal so I'm not super opposed to changing up my army a bit.

exactly :)

Alaxtis•

In the same position here, do you think I could get away with layering the new paints over Caledor Sky? I've only gotten as far as basing and wash.

1
slimCyke•

Probably. Looks like the new paints are just for the highlights, not the base coat. If nothing else you could use Caledor Sky, the new highlights, and then use a blue glaze to tie smooth out the transition.

1
Alaxtis•

Good thought, might do this. I love the paint scheme here, and I think I'll proxy my TS Terminators as the new Scarab Terminators or whatever they're called.

Reddevilheathen•

It's crazy to me, since they've been known to have a release date of before Xmas for at least 6 months. On the other hand, gives you an excuse to add the new ones as well and be well on your way to A Thousand Sons.

Post some pics! Love me some sons of Prospero

I had bought this upgrade pack over a year ago, back then "plastic rubrics" were just wishes and dreams ;)

I'll post some when I get back home!

Now we just need something to replace those Nurgle-aweful finecast Plague Marines.

bigmanmac14•

Soon (hopefully)

0neBarWarrior•

NOOOOOO, I just started putting together my forgeworld plague marines! Honestly though, I imagine they might just use the forgeworld sculpts and nurglified chaos legs; they already have the sculpts so why not reuse them, right?

3
supahmonkey•

Maybe they want a bit more variety in the sculpts than the FW ones have.

Forge world upgrade kits and greenstuff will have to do for now..

2
Bionic_YetiOP•

I feel the same way. I forked out the money for the forgeworld upgrades and they weren't much better.

1

Thank God. Those torsos were just a wee bit too small every time, made building them a nightmare and a half

What is this?

Every single finecast upgrade kit I've used for my son's has a torso a bit smaller, leaving the shoulder circle uneven

I was exaggerating :P

2
atsidas•

good! christ it was an awful deal

didnt even give you all the needed parts for a full squad

1
sinndogg2•

Back in 3rd edition, squads with Marks got bonuses when the number of models was a multiple of their god's favoured number. The TS/Noise Marine/Plague Marine kits were designed with that in mind.

3
atsidas•

that was 3rd ed though :C

1
AngusKhan•

Wait, really? Do you approximately know which section it is under? I have the 3e book, but can't find what you are talking about.

1
sinndogg2•

Which 3rd edition Codex do you have? I meant 3.5.

If that's the one you've got, then Page 38 has the basic "Favoured Units" thing, and the bonuses for favoured units (free Aspiring Champions, re-rolls for Daemon summoning attempts) are mentioned in the sections for each of the four Cult Legions. They only applied in armies for those Legions though, so a unit of six Noise Marines would only benefit if it was in a proper Emperor's Children army.

1
mjobrown•

completely intentional so you have to buy more than you need

2
Alaxtis•

It's the same with the Noise Marines unfortunately.

1
ashrid5150•

I didn't mind it when it were a metal kit (or a full boxed set), but the price for the bits was stupid

1
Bionic_YetiOP•

Yeah I remember back in 3rd or 4th when you could get them in a box, that wasn't bad. But this was awful you had to buy the csm squad, then the upgrades and on top of that the upgrades didn't even cover the entire squad.
