Depends on what's around you.

The beauty of Civ VI.

Ones that give culture are the best, since getting important civics like early empire and political philosophy before anyone else is extremely advantageous (a big reason for why rome is considered high tier). Of those, +1 culture from pastures is probably the very best as its the most consistent, and you're usually going to want to settle near horses anyway since light cavalry dominates the military scene for basically the whole game.

Yeah oral tradition (I believe that is what it is called) is great because it makes pastures even more multipurpose and flexible

FilthyRobot did an excellent rundown video on them here.

My summary: Culture ones are top tier ("God of the Open Sky" or "Oral Tradition"), then "Lady of the Reeds and Marshes" is solid if you start with lots of wet tiles, and "God of the Forge" is good if in MP or going for early war. If all of these are taken, then fall back to "Fertility Rites" or "Religious Settlements". The rest are pretty much crap as of v1.0.0.26.

SpedwardsThis is close to VI right?•

Fertility Rites is good if there's nothing around you.

Not religious settlements? I like getting tiles faster.

Growth = More Population = Work more tiles.

More tiles just means you have more less than average tiles to work.

Bigger borders though. And higher population isn't a given with housing limitations, that 10% bonus is useless when you run out of housing frequently. Faster border expansion is forever. And so is the need to buy tiles.

I prefer religious settlements over fertility rites for the same reason I don't think hanging gardens is as good in this game: You always run into housing problems before you get neighborhoods anyways. Faster growth just speeds up the inevitable block. I suppose if I was playing Kongo though I might reconsider.

Depends on the civ, your surroundings and what's left. I'm normally late to getting a pantheon so I normally go Divine Spark. Extra GPPs aren't to be sniffed at.

God of the Forge, Lady of the Reeds and Marshes, and the two culture ones are very good

Tails6666•

Usually depends but the Culture ones are usually fantastic.

MrSteelflex•

I like God King since you didn't specify.

2
mystikalhereigo•

That is a policy, not a pantheon. A pantheon is an early religion. Everyone basically gets one. It also serves as the "core" of a founded religion

2
MrSteelflex•

God King is in fact a Pantheon belief.

1
mystikalhereigo•

Hmm must have missed it, thanks

2
MrSteelflex•

I was kinda trolling. It's a Pantheon belief in Civ 5.

I like the one that gives increased border growth (religious settlement?). And even with that I find borders still expand too slowly.

Other than that, the pasture culture one is nice.

if the lands justify it Stone Circles almost feels broken, tends to make faith buying GP fairly easy

quarries are bad compared to mines though.

Better to harvest and mine a stone on a hill rather than quarry it.

1
King_in-the_North•

What makes you say this? I've never really considered it. What's the breakdown there?

3
snowylion•

They start out the same, then by apprenticeship, mines give +1 prod and again by Industrialisation. And apprenticeship is one of the techs you beeline to for the Industrial district.

While Quarries stay at same production and give +1 gold by banking.

Also, Stone harvest gives a ton of production. It's my go-to method of district building or rushing settlers. if the tile under is hill, a mine goes there for zero loss of production or even an increase, and if the tile is flat, farm or dist.

That +1 gold is really not significant by the time you get banking.

Lady Of The Reeds And Marshes works well with Egypt

If you're playing as Russia, you're gonna want to almost always pick Dance of the Aurora.

1
imharshj•

Combine that with jesuit Education and its a monster.

3
ace_of_sppades•

Not really. It only gives you more faith and faith isn't that good of a resource.

That said Russia probably has some of the best uses for faith in a theology Cossack timing push.

2
the_kaeve•

It's useful for buying great people!

3
SnowOrShine•

And units if you pick the right government mid-game

For deity I think Divine Spark can be useful for getting a religion. Stone Circles is often a great faith generator. Fertility Rights is always very solid, as is Religious Setttlements. The ones that improve luxuries are both pretty good. Culture from pastures is pretty solid.

Off the top of my head these ones are all pretty good. Generally I'd say anything that gives you a constant benefit is good, e.g. faster growth or more culture. Generating faith for example is only really that great if you have a specific religious or great person strategy for it.

pacotacobell•

+1 culture for pastures on Scythia. Always.

1
Carbo__•

Divine Spark. The +1 culture, or production ones are decent early game but ineffective and useless once you have a couple cities.

An extra great scientist or 2 is a huge advantage.
