I don't even doubt he's in the 1% but rarely does one get to witness such rapidly shifting cognitive dissonance from a petite bourgeoise socialist in the wild.

How does somebody become this deluded other than "the hip crowd I want to mingle with requires me to virtue signal"

How does somebody become this deluded other than

I am asking that myself every day. How?

"the hip crowd I want to mingle with requires me to virtue signal"

Virtue signaling is action of "tribal marking". Two wolf packs can coexist, but two ant colonies fight. Need to know well who is who: look different, make different sounds, have different pheromones. When he talks to us. He knows every thing he needs to know about us: enemy. Get the enemy scalp and you would be a hero. Thinks we after his scalp too, probably.

Listening to our argument is painful, because his ideas are linked to his ego. It's good not "put" any ideas to definition of who one is, because existential pain is blinding. He has a cognitive dissonance, his reaction is anger. "They are trying to make me into an enemy" is what he feels.

But he doesn't get it. He probably does that purely instinctively. He is a politician otherwise. So it's "us against them" for him. We are "them" and we have been completely dehumanized. He has a moral high ground. He views us not different then nazis view jews, to some extent at least.

the hip crowd I want to mingle with

The only socialist sub I contribute to regularly is r/CapitalismVSocialism. Why hang out in an echo-chamber? I want to challenge my ideas.

When I said "1%" I mean literally, not figuratively like the Occupy movement. What they are referring to is more like the 0.1% or the 0.01%. I don't earn that much.

I don't have cognitive dissonance; I just want what's best for my family, and that is to keep my current job. I'm not stupid.

So, you're greedy, lol...

What about anyone besides your family?

4

How am I going to help anyone else evenly slightly by quitting my job? I don't even have a business idea to start a coop! I'd literally be nuts not to keep my current job.

Edit: the way I see it is the best I can do to help others is advocate for systemic change.

How is perpetuating capitalism advocating for change again?

Sure, you 'advocate' on paper. But then when it comes down to it, you're faced with the reality that you need capitalism to support your family. Just like everyone else. You're unwilling to be the change you want to see.

You're a socialist only as far as Reddit and dinner table conversations. You are are self hating in your own ideological dreamworld. And you "argue" for changes in the direction of a system you, in action, clearly do not actually want to see.

The irony is too much. You know that living this ideology will mean the end of income for your family. Yet you want to force it on others. Because somehow once everyone does it, implicitly by force, things will get better.

I mean, even Chinese factories have dormitories for the workers. What kind of cruel bastard wants to keep them in a coop?

Socialist lefties are often more empathetic than libertarians...they're just lower on rationality.

every leftist I've ever known had zero empathy, seemed to be equal parts delusions, sociopathic, narcissistic (totally self obsessed).

they only seemed to profess leftist ideas because they thought it somehow made then better

While socialists claim to support The Worker, they ultimately envision him as a hapless dumbass who cannot control his life unless he is placed in socialism. Nearly every critique socialists levee at capitalism today involves The Worker falling victim to some psychological cage he was placed in by the capitalist. To socialists, The Worker is too dumb to not just buy whatever he sees, too dumb to negotiate with his employer, and ultimately just too dumb to do anything about his life - The Worker is in an invisible cage with a conceptual slave driver controlling him.

Socialists are the least empathetic cult on the planet. Even their acts of seeming benevolence are meaningless virtue signaling at best and a recruitment tool for the unfortunate at worst.

I see that guy all the time and to think that he is a 1% oh my god!! It's just evidence that a socialist society cannot work.

1

2% actually. I did a fact check.
