[Discussion thread] Tati made me buy it

What did Tati make you buy? Did it work? Did it not work?

Disclaimer: Yes, we are all responsible for our own choices so let's just get that out of the way and lightheartedly blame a guru for making us buy stuff.

Credit to Samantha March as she was the first BG I saw do this (but a YT search shows there are other videos of a similar nature).

-Physician's Formula Jumbo Organic Wear Mascara in the green tube!

Personally, I love this mascara. I know it smudges for some people, but I've never had that problem. Especially after the mascara has dried out for a week or so, this is hands down my favorite mascara. It makes me look like I have a million lashes and it does not budge on me!

-Wet n Wild blush in pearlescent pink

Also love this blush. I don't find it to be too glittery and it blends nicely for me. She said it was a dupe for Orgasm, but I actually like this one better because it looks more pink on me skin! Orgasm looks kind of orange on me?

-Pantene Dry Shampoo

I have mixed feelings about this. It gives my hair MAD volume and it doesn't leave a white cast, but I find it doesn't soak up oil very well. I like to use it for texture, but if I am being lazy and don't want to wash my hair, I'm still reaching for good old batiste.

-Loreal Lacquer Liner

My HG gel eyeliner

Tati was one of the first YouTubers I started watching, so she she has a really special place in my heart. Also my mom, who does not know much about makeup (she's been a lifelong Mary Kay/Avon makeup user) likes her too. She's been watching her videos here and there with me for the past couple months, and now my mom will ask me "what does Tati think of this product?" when she has a question about something. Subsequently, my mom has been branching out a lot more (I got her the it IT CC cream for her birthday, she said she didn't know what it was like to have a foundation that matches/doesn't look cakey/lasts all day) and makeup has become a huge bonding point for us. TL;DR: My mom and I just really love Tati

I had the same experience with the dry shampoo! I also went back to Batiste. She said in comments Batiste would have been #3 on her list.

Given both of your feelings about Batiste, I'm going to give it a shot. (cc: u/Sorority_Noise)

Lazy dark brunette here: I went for the Nexxus dry shampoo she recommended in the same video as the Pantene, and I love the Nexxus! Until starting it, I alternated between Living Proof (too expensive) and Batiste (too chalky).

Edit: clarity

2
alisontangible•

How does the Nexxus work compared to Batiste, specifically with oil absorption? I love Batiste, but it is chalky on my colored hair. I also feel like I have to use tons of the stuff and I don't have thick hair at all.

• Maybelline Fit Me: this concealer is too warm toned for me and also too dark for my undereye area, which is the only place I use concealer. It has ok crease-resistance, but I also have yet to find a concealer that won't crease on my undereye area. • Coty Airspun Powder: first of all, there is SO MUCH in that jar. I'm never running out of this powder. I have pretty dry skin, and this looks ok everywhere on my face except right under my eyes. It accentuates these tiny little bumps I have and the lines. But it's great for baking or just lightly setting elsewhere. • That Guerlain Gold Primer: Ok, I'm kind of lying here. I got like 5 samples of this, because I kept going back to Sephora and asking over and over again. It didn't anti-age me or lift my face to the heavens, but it's a nice makeup base and as a broke young adult, there's something kind of satisfying about rubbing gold on your face. But I don't think I'd actually take the plunge for the full size just yet.

Tati is occasionally a little out of touch, but I have a very soft spot for her. She was one of the first beauty gurus I found, and she just seems so sweet.

pukerock•

did you buy the coty powder in-stores somewhere, or online?

2
perilousmortal•

I found it at Rite Aid and CVS. But it's kind of hidden in all the stores I've seen it at. For some reason, the last time I bought it, it was with the nail tools.

15
styckywycket•

Same here. At Rite Aid, by the nail tools.

4
sniffymom•

Walgreens, also. And they keep it in the nail tools section too.

1
ThePuppyPrincess•

You can get it online but I think people find it at Walmart.

4
iamsc•

You can also find it at Kmart if you have one around

4
jen283•

I bought mine on Amazon & it was a couple dollars more but the closest store to me that would have it is 30+ minutes away and I didn't think that was worth it for a drugstore powder.

2
isnotonreddit•

Which shade of the fit me concealer do you use?

1
perilousmortal•

I've tried both of the lightest shades, since someone told me that the second lightest shade by number in the line is actually the lightest shade for some reason. There both just a hair too dark for me. For reference, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly is a perfect highlight shade for me. Very pale and very neutral.

2
isnotonreddit•

Yeah, I was going to mention that 15 was lighter than 10 in case you didn't know. Sorry!

3
perilousmortal•

I did learn that on Reddit actually. Thanks anyway!

frecklesandgeckos•

Those L'Oréal matte glosses. I adore them. No regrets.

38
pajamasinbananas•

matte gloss?? Aren't those words opposites??!

16
DientesDelPerro•

the comfort of a gloss, but not "shiny". if you blot they lose that gloss texture and sit more like a stain.

I've been doing home improvement projects, so that's where my brain is, but I'd classify traditional lipgloss as a "semi gloss" and the matte glosses as an "eggshell/satin", if that makes any sense

11
niccig•

The name is totally ridiculous. But they are really nice.

5
youngandstarving•

Me too! I bought 2 when she did the video on them and I've actually been wearing them a lot lately since my lips are chapped.

5
fridayfridayjones•

Ah, me too! I don't love them, but they're ok. I also bought a bunch of the L'Oreal singles she recommended around the same time. Two of the shades she loved turned out to be really patchy and terrible. They literally don't show up on me at all. No idea how she made them look decent in her video. The other shade is my go to matte brown now though so that worked out for me.

2
koala_scope•

They don't last at all on me! Any tips?

Follow up question: they were my first purchase of a lip product in my entire life (other than colorless lip balms), is every day just a completely different lifestyle having something on your lips and I'll get used to it?

1
frecklesandgeckos•

I always use a lip liner with almost every lip product I use. Then apply the lipstick and blot and apply again. These aren't truly matte, so they won't last forever but they hang on for a few hours for me.

As for having something on your lips everyday...yes, it's something you have to get used to. You have to get used to the look of something on your lips and the feeling of it being there. I started off with sheer lipsticks or tinted chapstick.

ghoulfacedsaint•

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and L'Oréal Infallible gel liner in blackest black. I like them both enough. The eyeliner is very black and stays put!

20
vforveracosa•
  • Coty Airspun powder - it's really nice applied with a beauty blender. I have dry-ish skin, but this powder doesn't emphasize the dryness, unlike most setting powders.

  • PF Shimmer Strips Custom palette - it's fine, but nothing special, just a subtle highlighter.

  • PF Organic Wear Mascara (green tube) - not bad, but again, nothing special. It doesn't make my lashes look any better or worse than other drugstore mascaras I've tried.

17
umbleallie•

Maybeline FitMe concealer and benefit POREfessional. They're two of my favorite products!

16
ThePuppyPrincess•

The Essence liquid lipsticks. They are definitely more of a pigmented gloss than s liquid lip but I have been absolutely loving them! And so affordable too.

Edit: I forgot to mention the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer. Haven't actually tried it yet though, but I did buy it.

14
sushiitaco•

The $2 Essence eyeliner which was pretty okay and lasted well enough on me.

13
spiderlegged•

The Physicians Formula Jumbo Wear Mascara in the green tube. I love this mascara. I like this a lot, but I've replaced it with the mascara from the same line in the white tube. I like both.

Also the Maybelline FitMe concealer, which is awesome. It's a great color match for me, and it works really well as an every day concealer. I really like it.

12
sniffymom•

The Cover/FX Custom Blot Drops. A bit on the pricey side, but it works very well.

12
PersistentCatOP•
  • Maybelline Age Rewind - the brightening version. It's nice enough but I don't really notice a difference.

  • Benefit Cheekathon - I really love this palette. I know it didn't get a lot of love but as someone new to Benefit and bronzing, I love the blushes and bronzers in this palette. I bought it back in May and I still use it almost daily.

  • Lancome Juicy Shakers - ok, a bunch of BGs convinced me I needed these but I think it was Tati that pushed me over the edge. These aren't great. At first I wanted to love them because they were C$28 but they dry out my lips and the colour lasts for about three seconds.

  • Mac Fix+ - doesn't work for my skin. It turned the skin under my eyes red and the two times I used it for eye shadow, it turned my lids scaly. Granted it cleared up really quickly but I gave that bottle away.

That's all I can think of right now but I'm certain there is more.

12
itselena•

That is so disappointing to hear about the Juicy Shakers. Juicy Tubes were my first luxury brand makeup purchase years ago so I have a soft spot for Lancôme lip products. I'm trying very hard lately to avoid things that seem gimmicky but I thought since one of my makeup idol's, Lisa Eldridge, was promoting these that I might give them a shot. Now I'll pass. :(

3
Starstilidie•

FWIW I purchased one juicy shaker (Meli Melon) and it's really nice. The oils hydrate my dry lips and the color leaves a nice stain. I have used it consistently since the summer and still have quite a bit of product left. I can't attest to other colors within the line but I've had great success with this particular one. Also the scent is not too overly sweet.

3
itselena•

Oh well now I'm conflicted. HAHAHA.

1
Starstilidie•

Hahahaha you could always return if you hate it...lol

I've read other reviews on the shakers and they seem to be hit or miss. I think the shade I chose ended up being a hit but I am sure there are some that are duds. For example, the mint one is supposed to make your teeth whiter or something. Unless it has magical whitening components developed by George Weasley, I'm not totally buying into that.

7
PersistentCatOP•

Some people like them. I tried to convince myself I liked them but they're C$28. That's a lot of cash for a wash of colour that is gone quickly. It dries out my lips but that's me, my lips are always dry.

3
ComingUpMilhouse•

Take anything Lisa says about Lancome with copious amounts of salt, Lisa is a/the Creative Director for the company. Saying that I really respect how much she still uses other brands in her videos, I don't feel that she's pushing Lancome onto her audience.

1
joie-devivre•

The Tattoo Junkee liquid lipsticks from one of her first OMG Tuesday videos - I got the red one, and I never used the glitter that came with it but I do really like the liquid lipstick. It does transfer a little, but it doesn't smear everywhere and it's not super drying imo.

10
Rach__•

I bought one also but the dark purple almost black one. It is horrible; patchy, crumbly, and super drying. And that is without the powder on top. It does not mix well with any other lip product. I think it was released for Halloween, so that explains the difference.

I'm kicking myself for not going with the red one that she used in her first video.

1
chicseabeauty•

So. Many. Things. Most notably though the new LOreal lip paints, I love them. Pantene dry shampoo is okay, I like Not Your Mothers better. Milani Perfect and Conceal foundation is god awful and even the lightest shades come off bright orange.

10
emk0626•

The age rewind concealer in neutralizer which is now probably my favorite makeup item. It covers my dark under eye circles and the redness on my nose and cheeks so naturally

9
araradia•

Do you only use that or also top it with another concealer/powder?

2
emk0626•

If I just want to quickly even out my skin tone, then I use it on it's own. If I'm doing a full face of makeup I may add the fit me concealer on top or the well rested powder concealer from bare minerals for some extra coverage and brightening

2
araradia•

Thank you!

*L'OREAL Brow Stylist Definer (in brunette)

I had been looking for a brow pencil product to try, ideally drugstore since I wasn't sure if I would like using a pencil. So I was happy to try this when she said she liked it better than the ABH Brow Wiz.

I like the formula, but the colour range is really limited. Brunette is too warm for me so I don't use it anymore. I wouldn't say this is a bad recommendation if you're looking for something warm.

BUT it seriously breached my trust when in a later '99% drugstore' tutorial, she claimed she's never found any drugstore brow products she likes, and used a Benefit brow pencil instead. Especially living in Canada where L'OREAL prices are nothing to sneeze at.

9
PersistentCatOP•

As she applied everything while holding the Benefit mirror in front of the camera (and it was right after the Benefit Vegas trip). That was when I started disliking her and I eventually unsubbed.

11
cindyana_jones•

I thought that was so strange too about the eyebrow pencils! She also said she liked the Colour Pop ones before too. I have both and both are great AND I found the Benefit brow pencil too waxy for my tastes.

I almost wonder if some of the BGs had to agree to only recommend the Benefit ones for a couple months or something.

6
CHNYC•

I think about that with Desi and Katy since they're the face of the brow line and they only use Benefit brow stuff in their tutorials.

4
PhoebeA•

Wet n Wild 903c! Which turned out to be too pale for me. MAC Fix Plus, Nars Sheer Glow, Maybelline Bad to the Bronze, Physicians Formula green mascara (which was a total fail), Rimmel Stay Matte

9
AvaWest•

That Coty Airspun powder. It's awful. How can translucent have extra coverage? It can't. It's so pink toned. I don't care about scent really. That one has the typical grandma smell, but it didn't bother me. I just hate the formula and color. It made my skin dry but didn't control my oils.

8
kixback•

Milani Earthy Elements palette. I would have to agree with her description on her video. The lighter shades are meh, but the dark ones are very soft.

8
bekkmakeup•

Everyone has put drugstore items for the most part, but Tati made me buy the stupid 70 dollar Chantecaille mascara... I know, judge me for it but I really wanted something to make my lashes grow, give volume, and it was for my birthday, so I wanted to splurge. I also had a gift card that a friend gave me so it ended up being a little less than the steep 70 dollars, nonetheless, expensive still. Tati also made me buy other things, such as the Vice 4 pallete and some other drugstore purchases. the only thing she has recommended that I have hated, was the Almay Smartshade foundation which was a cool idea, but poor performance. I seriously really like Tati despite some of her flaws.

8
sniffymom•

I tried the Smart Shade foundation when it first came out. Horrible stuff, oxidized like crazy, and would settle in my pores and leave me with weird spots.

2
bekkmakeup•

literally it did all of those things to me too. It was awful

1
candysan•
  1. Pantene Dry Shampoo, which does not soak up my oils at all. I feel like it makes me more oily?? But... it does smell good and give good volume.
  2. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer, that I love! I use this for just my under eyes.
  3. Cover girl Supersizer Mascara, which I have mixed feelings about. It works well for my bottom eyelashes, but definitely not my top. I'm sure I'm missing something, but I just love Tati so much :)
7
gmwrnr•

Agreed, Supersizer is garbage.. I can't understand why so many BG's rave about it

3
apathetichearts•

Most people use the CG mascara for bottom lashes only actually

2

Lazy dark brunette here: I went for the Nexxus dry shampoo she recommended in the same video as the Pantene, and I love the Nexxus! Until starting it, I alternated between Living Proof (too expensive) and Batiste (too chalky).
