Base Alexander Steen Review

With Steen now being possibly the most hyped up Movember card now, I figured I'd give everyone a good idea of how his base card plays.

Linemates: Base Kesler/Legend Gilmour and MOV Simmonds/Base Skinner on first line

Stats: 26 Games, 10 Goals, 2 Assists, +18 +/-, 2 PIM

Synergies Activated: Wicked Wristers

Price: Around 1k

Three Word Description: Sniping Two-Way Forward

Skating - 7/10: Steen isn't the fastest player out on the ice, and that can be pretty obvious at times, as he regularly fails to outskate opposing defenders. However, his balance and strength on the puck is fairly solid, and he can take a hit pretty well.

Shooting - 8.5/10: At times Steen can have a wicked shot, one that can allow him to score with relative ease on wristers. As for slapshots, he is about average there, nothing really bad and nothing really good to say in regards to those.

Hands/Passing - 7.5/10: Not really anything to complain about here. He gets the job done with passing and dekeing, again remaining at about the level of an average player. I would rate him a bit higher, but his assisting ability is a bit lacking.

Checking - 6.5/10: Steen's biggest weakness is likely his hitting skills. 83 body checking and a small stature doesn't bring too much to the physical side of things, and you may find him bouncing off of opposing players instead of delivering a good hit.

Defense - 9/10: Without a doubt the strongest area of Steen's game. He has maintained a +18 rating on my team, which is the highest on my team by a whole 5 points. Steen can be counted on to get you important interceptions and to clog up those passing lanes, making him an asset on the penalty kill (adding in with his decent offense this adds some counterattack potential as well).

Overall - 7.7/10: Overall, Steen is a very average player. He is serviceable in pretty much every area, with his one huge strength being in the defensive area. Look to put his Movember or base card on your third or fourth line, using him for a bit of a scoring and defense boost for those lines.
