Base Wheeler Review
Hello, I decided to do another review for all of you. I decided to do one for the base Blake Wheeler card.
Position: RW Synergy: Offensive Juggernaut (OJ) Team: Winnipeg Jets Country: USA Height: 6 foot 5 inches Rating: 89 Does he have a MOV? Yes
Skating: 8.5/10 Blake Wheeler is a very tall player and surprisingly has great speed for his size. He has great puck protection and reach, so driving towards the net is a great idea with him. He isn't a speedy player like Zuccarello, Kesler or Hagelin but he can get the job done.
Shooting: 9/10 One of Wheeler's strengths is his shot. Great wrist shot as well as slapper. Goes well on the point at the powerplay because he has a powerful as well as accurate shot. His one timers rarely miss the target, so with a good passing centerman like Backstrom, goals will come easily
Hands and Delking: 9/10 Another of Blake Wheeler's strengths as well as his shot is his hands. Oh boy, he's got some sweet hands! One deke I usually use and personally really like with him is the "windmill deke". If you get him on breakaways, you either have a chance to shoot or deke, because both are very strong
Bodychecking: 8.5/10 The guy is 6 foot 4, so like most average hockey players of his size, he can hit. There's not much to say in this category, but Wheeler can be either a physical aspect of a scoring machine, depending on your style of play
Defense: 8.5/10 Wheeler has a very long reach, so pokechecking is very easy with him. He's also able to hit, so if he's defending, you have either the option to hit or pokecheck, depending on your preferences. Wheeler is very big, so he can block shots easier than some other players.
Other honorable skills:
Passing: Wheeler is a very good passer in the game. You can put him with either a scoring or a passing centerman, because he has a good shot
Penalty kill: Wheeler is and has always been on my first penalty kill unit. Good reach, means easy to pokecheck, big guy, means easy to block shot and hit, also very quick and protects the puck well, which means he can also create breakaways.
I hope this review helps you, I greatly recommend him. I currently use him as my first line RW with Johansen at C and Nash at LW.
If you have any questions, I'm glad to answer. Have a good day!
