Wade Redden Review: Super Keith
Hey everyone, as part of my plan to review a bunch of different players on my team, I'll be reviewing Wade Redden today. I'll be basing my review on the five stats on the card and I'll be sharing his stats through 103 games on my team. Keep in mind that I have the following synergies active on my team: WW, OJ, NP, RF, DR, HH, FM, IS, 1T, CG, TT, SB, T.
Skating: 9/10: Redden's speed is solid enough that he doesn't get burned for it off the rush, but it isn't anything too special. A pleasant surprise for me was that both his speed (89) and acceleration (90) felt better than what they are on the card. I'd say they felt more like 92. One massive bonus for Redden is that his endurance without CG is 94, allowing him to take very long shifts and still be able to be effective.
Shooting: 9/10: Redden has a very underrated shot. With 95 and 93 for SSA and WSA he is able to pick corners with ease in an opening. His shot is definitely very effective at getting through and is powerful enough to trickle in even if the goalie gets a piece of it.
Hands: 9/10: Redden is very effective at breaking out and making the first pass. With a 94 passing rating without any synergies active, he rarely passes where you aren't aiming and can pull off passes through traffic. His puck control isn't anything to write home about but it is solid. He can perform most dekes without any issues, but as I've mentioned in my other reviews I don't deke much especially with defensemen.
Defense: 9.5/10: Redden is outstanding in his defensive zone, pick off passes and cutting off lanes. He is an absolute warrior when it comes to blocking shots. Him and Klesla are my go to's for the penalty kill and for good reason.
Checking: 8.5/10: Redden is a pretty big guy at 6'2, 210 lbs so he can definitely finish his checks. He isn't physically dominant like Blake or Klesla, but if you manage to catch someone off balance or in open ice, he'll be able to lay them out. He's pretty good about holding the puck and isn't knocked off the puck very easily.
Overall Redden is a pretty mobile defenseman who excels on both sides of the puck. I feel that he is one of the best two way defenseman in this game and feels like an upgraded Doughty or Keith would in games prior. His synergies (2 SB, 2 DR) won't blow anyone away but they are a good fit for my team, and definitely enhance him on the defensive side of the puck. For around 115-120k, I'd recommend him to anyone looking at getting him.
Stats through 103 games: 23 goals, 25 assists, 46 points, +56, 4 PIM
