What are your tricks for sleeping after the sun rises?
Once the sun rises, you've got maybe an hour at most before everything starts to bake. Even if I'm exhausted and just went to sleep at dawn, I can never sleep once the sun rises because it's too damn hot.
I've tried battery powered fans and eye shades and even seen some people put tarps over their tents. Obviously you can go chill in the forest, but for people trying to actually get some sleep in the mornings, what tricks have you found that help?
Here's a quick rundown of suggestions from below:
- Get as much shade as possible over your tent (use a canopy with light walls for ventilation and shade)
- Sleep off the ground to get ventilation all around you (cot, hammock, zero-grav chair)
- Use a sleep mask and ear plugs
- Sleep in the car with AC on (make sure you have enough fuel and also don’t be a dick and idle your car right next to your neighbor’s tent/face)
- Build an evaporative cooling thing (aka a swampcooler/cooling tower)
- Melatonin
- If weather is clear, open all tent ventilation flaps and take off rain cover
- Don’t use a tent and just sleep under a canopy
- Battery powered fan
- Buy several emergency survival blankets and some large binder clips, clip them together (shiny side up) all over your tent (this reflects sun/heat)
- Camp in Maplewoods
- Nap in Sherwood
- Go to the waterpark and nap by the pool (there’s AC and lounge chairs)
