The fast catamaran design of the Gorbatyy and its heavy armament of anti-ship missiles will make it lethal in the planned areas of deployment such as the Black Sea. Its small size and stealthy superstructure and hull will make it difficult to detect and target before it is in range.
The Gorbatyy will carry the 3M22 Tsirkon hypersonic missile used on the Kirov. The Tsirkon will be upgraded and fitted to the Gorbatyy, Lider and Gorshkov ships under production. It will use swarm tactics similar to previous Russian ASHMs to overwhelm defences, accelerating to Mach 7 as it nears the target's radar horizon. Hypersonic maneuvers and flight within a few metres of the water's surface will make it almost impossible to target and destroy. The range for variants for use on Russian surface ships will be 600 km.
