[reddit change] Filter incoming messages to trusted users only

We've added a preference to our messaging options that allows you to only receive messages from users that you trust. You can enable and disable this at any time by clicking on 'Control who can send me messages' on your preferences page.

It looks like this.

There are 2 message preference options.

Receive messages from:

  • Everyone, except blocked users (default)
  • Only trusted users.

The first preference is the default for all accounts. Your inbox will display all messages you receive, except those from blocked users.

If you enable the second preference, messages sent to you from untrusted users will be filtered from your inbox. If you switch back to allowing messages from everyone, all messages will be visible.

You can add and remove trusted users via the 'Trusted User' section below. Additionally, if you have this preference selected, you can add or remove trusted users via their userpage. PMing a user will also add them to your trusted list.

Our existing user blocking tool will continue to function normally.

The intention of this tool is to put control over your inbox in your own hands. If you are being harassed via PM, please [message r/reddit.com modmail](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Freddit.com) or email contact@reddit.com as we take those requests very seriously.

EDIT:

There has been concerns over our JSON API changing, so I have fixed it by reverting behavior of prefs/blocked.json to just displaying blocked users. I have also added prefs/trusted.json endpoint that will only give listing of trusted users. UI links and behavior will remain as before.
