Base Getzlaf Review

Getzlaf is a middle range, about 27k player. He is perfect for a big bodied, playmaking centerman.

Warning, DO NOT PLAY ON THE WING he is very slow

so here goes

---

Line - usually Wheeler - Getz - MOV marchand

---

Skating - 8.5/10

Getzlaf is not speedy, no good top speed, no good acceleration. what he does have, however, is good agility and balance. he can make good turns if you arent hustling with him and can join in a rush from time to time.

Hands - 9.2/10

Getz's hands are something else. I mean you dont think of a power forward as being slick but his hands are comparable to those of say Tavares, Stamkos, or Kopitar...not top level but great nonetheless. his passing is also awesome, and he feeds wheeler well.

Shooting - 8.7/10

the beautifully haired beast has a sweet slapshot to go along with a slightly above average wrister. some may find his wrister to be better but it is a bit underwhelming for me. his one timer is also REALLY good if you can get as close to the net as possible. id say anywhere in the slot or near the dots are auto in but any further and its wide or high.

Checking - 9.5/10

He is one of the best checkers in the game for this cheap, with physicallity comparable to ovi. this makes him a great forechecker. he is up there with the burns and subbans in the checking and will kill anyone smaller than 6' 9" ;).

Defense - 9.1/10

He is an above average penalty killer and his big frame helps him block lots of shots. he is no bergeron on stick checking and discipline, but hes up there. he seems to have a good sense of positioning. (also good at faceoffs)

Awareness - 8.8/10

His defensive awareness is great, close to a Bergeron, but his offensive awareness is missing something. sure he can get a cycle going but when it comes to being in the good areas to score goals, Getzlaf leaves it on the table. Id say 65-70 percent of the time he will be in a good place but that last few percents are just bringing him down.

Overall rating - 89.66%

Final thoughts - Play him with blake wheeler. i mean it. they will score and defend like no other. on the other wing id put some sort of flashy, two way winger like marchy or steen or hoffman or the like.

leave feedback as always!
