World Cup of Hockey Doug Gilmour Review

Team Advice

Hey guys, that middle aged woman from Africa and I guess that other girl that was on here for like 2 days I'm doing my very first player review on WCoH Doug Gilmour (92). You're all in for a treat you get to read an extremely meh HUT player review a very "boring" player.

All the games I've played with him have been in D1 and D2, his stats auto reset for some reason otherwise I'd include how bad I am at scoring.

Line (this was my 3rd line at the time): Base 88 Jeff Carter Left Wing - WCoH 92 Doug Gilmour Center - Base 87 Auston Matthews Right Wing

He's got new lineys now but I haven't played enough minutes with them together so I'm just using this line for review purposes.

Synergies Active: Tape to Tape, Cycle Game, Passing Playmaker, Defensively Responsible

Skating: 7.5/10 His 87 speed really does show while 87 isn't grandma driving on a sunday afternoon slow that itself is worthy enough for many upper division players to pass on him. Though historically centers don't have to be the speed demons of their respective line. It does feel like he's struggling to keep up when I'm breaking out of the zone with him. I think the important thing for him is to have linemates that can move up the ice and a decent pace for you to get the best use from him. The thing I do like from his skating category is his endurance. At 89 that's better than most other forwards at his price range, it's especially helpful for when he's on the PK. Overall his skating isn't the worst but for some it could be the deal breaker.

Shooting: 8/10 Gilmour's shot is very average I wouldn't buy him if you need that last guy to just pot genos game in and game out. That being said it's far from it being an issue he'll pick the occasional corner for you. I found that most of my goals from him game from him just being around the net whether it was was a rebound or a deflection he's got a knack for cleaning up the trash the goalie leaves laying around. I look at his shot as an added bonus for the player that he is it's rated perfectly for his type of play.

Hands: 9/10 This may be a little skewed because all the the passing synergies that could effect him were effecting him but he's a great passer who can deke and slip by a defender when you need him too. With skating and shooting sort of out the window the last offensive hope for Doug is passing and he does pull through. The passes he was throwing around were pure fettucinne alfredo sauce. He can also stand in front of the net and deflect shots in pretty well too. His playmaker player type really is proven right with him.

Checking: 8.5/10 At 5'10" 175 pounds he's not a big guy at all but he can actually throw his body around pretty well for a little guy. He can at least jostle the puck off most mid size and below players and if you have the right momentum he'll throw a big hit once and a while. Here's where his speed comes into factor again though because he's not that fast you gotta be careful taking hits, with less momentum going players who can make solid checks will push him off the puck he's not taking big checks just enough for him to lose control.

Defense: 9.5/10 This is why I bought him he is an absolute lock down defender. He is my 1PK center and I love him there. His stick checking is great he'll put his stick in good places to break up passes and will lift opposing players sticks for a nice steal. He's solid positioning as long as you aren't pulling guys around the defensive zone all the time because at that point there's only so much a single player can do when he's got no help D. His faceoff rating is 90 as well so he's elite level in that aspect. Defense can be a forgotten stat in HUT because it's so easy to score but don't sleep on tough D. This was by far his best category of skills.

Overall: Doug Gilmour won't being winning homecoming queen anytime soon but he's no scrub. While he's not the flashing or pretty option he's a great complementary guy. Given the right linemates and used right he does his job and does it well. While the 92 overall rating may looking deceiving his defensive prowess is what that rating shows. From a pure offensive stand point he plays more like at 88 but I think the 92 rating is just right for him. I got lucky and bought him at 100k he probably goes for 110K-ish. On high rated teams he'll never crack the top 6 but if you need an outstanding penalty killer and bottom 6 guy in general I definitely recommend him.

TL;DR Not fast, okay shot, great passing, best used for defense.

Thanks for reading and if you didn't (probably most people this was very long) thanks anyways for at the very least clicking on the post and scrolling to the bottom.
