Why NERF modding benefits the rest of the family. OR... How I finally justified my parts and supplies purchases to my wife. Well sort of!

So last week our washing machine stopped working completely, had power, had water but would not do anything.

I was about to replace the water valve because the solenoids had no continuity, but they did show the same resistance so I looked elsewhere. There was a blown fuse up top behind the controls, (which by the way none of the online troubleshooting guides mention) so I jumped it with a piece of wire (temporarily) as It was a Sunday and any place that would have carried this fuse and was open was too far. Tested the machine, then threw in a load of wash. Halfway through filling the breaker tripped in the panel. Some research later... the lid switch which should never be bypassed is made to blow that fuse when it goes bad!

IT'S SUNDAY - Where would I get a new microswitch on Sunday? Well my NERF parts tray of course. THIS is the exact configuration minus the arm although the original was a Cherry!

Washer fixed, new fuse on Monday and now I can reference this anytime I hear it about spending money playing with toys.

PRICELESS

EDIT; fixed a typo

At first I thought you were making an excuse to buy nerf parts by pretending the washing machine was broken.

Well I have been looking around the house looking for broken appliances etc. that would need something made on a 3d printer.

Tried this with my wife. "It's Metric, we don't have it here, guess I need I 3D Printer!". She's too smart for me, though, she just had the part ordered in from Canada. Which was pointless because it was in Imperial units anyway.

That's funny, they always know better than us! I would want a printer that works in imperial/ SAE though, don't need that many metric parts.

they

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Oh, neither do I, but how easy would it be to "accidentally" order an Imperial one, and oh, how very difficult it would be to return it. ;)

So you're not supposed to put Rhino motors in the washing machine?

EDIT: fixed mashing into washing.

The mashing machine? LOL

Probably not but if your motor died and you had enough Rhinos you might...

Granted, the basement at my parents' house still has lots of Nerf Stuff and modding supplies that need cleaned out. But it's hilarious how many things we've fixed with junk parts and random components down there. Anything to do with plumbing is covered. Need switches, or makeshift parts for the cars or tractors? Check down there before buying something.

I used nerf parts to build a DRL system for my car.

Electronics is electronics.

Had to look up DRL, daytime running lights. You are right, parts is parts! I have been re purposing "parts" in hot rodding for years.

My point was that my wife is not always thrilled when I'm buying more stuff for NERF mods, but if I had not had NERF mod stuff on hand our washer would not have been fixed on Sunday.
