Doug Wilson Review - Mr. Smooth

Other

Hey everyone, as part of my plan to review a bunch of different players on my team, I'll be reviewing Doug Wilson today. I'll be basing my review on the five stats on the card and I'll be sharing his stats through 179 games on my team. Keep in mind that I have the following synergies active on my team: WW, OJ, NP, RF, S, DR, HH, FM, IS, 1T, CG, TT, SB, T.

Skating: 9.5/10: If I had to describe Wilson's skating in one word, it has to be smooth. He can skate out of his own end without any issues and never gets caught flatfooted. To me his endurance is his greatest asset, at 95. This allows him to take some stupid long shifts and still be able to come right back on and play well. His speed and acceleration are solid at 93, but aren't quite there to warrant a 10.

Shooting: 9/10: Wilson has an outstanding shot, both slapshot and wrist shot. He can easily walk in and pick a corner, as well as hammer home a one timer from the point. His shot isn't as heavy as Blake's, but his wrist shot is much better.

Hands: 9.5/10: Another area where Wilson excels, he is able to thread passes through traffic with no problem. His breakout passes are flawless 99% of the time. He won't leave anyone's jock in the rafters with a deke but he is able move the puck quickly and efficiently to where you want it to be.

Physical: 8/10: Hitting is Wilson's weakest part of his game, but that doesn't mean that he's bad at it. Although he isn't the biggest guy (6'1 190 lbs), he can still knock players slightly larger than him off the puck. Where he falls behind players like Klesla and Blake is when he tries to hit someone who is holding the puck to the side. In situations where they would be able to get the puck back, he is just missing a little bit of that extra oomph.

Defense: 10/10: Wilson is just as good defensively as he is offensively, if not better. He is consistently in passing lanes with both his body and stick. What I notice most is how consistently his AI will jump in front of shots to block them.

Overall, Wilson is a smooth skating badass, who is one of the top two way defensemen in the game. I have him paired with Blake and they are going to be my top pairing for a long time. They are the pairing of the gods (sorry u/aciearl). He definitely should get more love but his synergies (2 T, 2 IS). are average. The 2 T is outstanding and finished 1/3 of the best defensive synergy. The IS is likely what turns most people away though.

Through 179 games his stats are: 26 goals, 82 assists, 108 points, +96 and a measly 16 PIM.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading, and let me know if there is anyone in particular you'd like to see reviewed (off my team).
